John Farnham’s son James welcomes first child with Dr Tessa Effendi – and reveals a sweet nod to his famous dad in the baby’s name
James Farnham and his partner Dr Tessa Effendi have welcomed their first child: a healthy baby boy.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the son of Australian singer John Farnham announced that their baby was born unexpectedly on June 18th at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital in Melbourne.
In their words, they had anticipated being thrilled to encounter him; however, it transpired that he was exceptionally eager to cross paths with them, showing up a bit earlier than planned.
Born as Jett John Farnham, a name honoring his grandfather James, weighed 3.176kg at birth. New parents James and Tessa shared their feelings of being smitten and sleep-deprived, yet they declared they wouldn’t trade these moments for anything in the world.
‘Jett is our entire universe compactly wrapped up in a small, lively, flawless form. We’re infatuated, exhausted from lack of sleep, and we wouldn’t want things to be different.’

For the first time, becoming grandparents, Jill and John Farnham couldn’t hide their excitement over the new family member, expressing immense pride and happiness towards James and Tessa.
‘We are over the moon about the arrival of this perfectly beautiful little boy,’ they penned.
James and Tessa’s little one, Jett, has arrived, and he’s already filled their hearts – and ours too! – with love. We couldn’t be more thrilled and proud for them.
In January, James announced that he and his partner were expecting a baby boy.
A video shared on Instagram depicted James igniting a stunningly adorned cake bearing the message “arriving in 2025”.
After setting fire to the sign, it curled up to uncover the message ‘Boy’, indicating that they’re expecting a son.
He also shared a photo of his partner’s ultrasound photo, which showed their unborn baby’s hand.
James captioned the clip with some heartfelt words: ‘Coming 2025! Tessa, I love you so much!’

For quite some time now, James has been involved with Tessa, a licensed practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They once graced the red carpet together at the 2023 premiere of the John Farnham: Finding the Voice documentary in Melbourne.
In 2024, the singer known for “You’re the Voice” got married, and this union resulted in their first grandchild. His older son, Robert, tied the knot with Melissa Kelly.
