John Farnham pays tribute to the fans who have supported him during his cancer battle – including Tom Jones and Coldplay’s Chris Martin
As a devoted fan who has grown up with the soulful melodies of John Farnham echoing through my childhood, I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for this legendary Australian artist. Two years ago, when he was struck down by cancer, it felt like a personal blow to me, as if a piece of my own life story had been snatched away. But now, seeing him well on his way to recovery, with well-wishers such as Tom Jones and Chris Martin leaving messages of support, I am filled with a renewed sense of hope and admiration.
He was struck down with cancer two years ago.
Currently, Australian music icon John Farnham, at 75 years old, seems to be progressing toward recovery, receiving immense support and love from his devoted fans.
Among those sending words of encouragement are Tom Jones, aged 84, and Chris Martin from Coldplay, who is 47 years old.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I, Jim Farnham, recently shared heartfelt words of encouragement for the iconic voice behind “You’re the Voice,” expressing my support during a special moment on Saturday.
He told the Herald Sun that his mother regularly receives video message calls from Chris Martin of Coldplay and Tom Jones, finding it amusing since they are keeping tabs on his father.
In August of last year, it was announced that John had been declared free of cancer, astonishing his admirers. Earlier this year, he surprised fans once more by attending the marriage ceremony of his eldest son, Robert, who is 44 years old, and his new wife Melissa.
In another part of our conversation, Jim mentioned that he intended to keep his supporters informed regularly, as a heartfelt tribute and respect to his fans, due to his father’s illness.
Many individuals out there truly admire my father, and I can certainly see why. To some, he might be an icon, and for me, he undoubtedly is one, and this sentiment rings true for many of us.
He often noted that when individuals no longer show interest in autographs or photos, it raises serious concerns. It amazes him, on the other hand, when they continue to care about such things.
‘He’s genuinely modest, and deeply appreciative of his successful career and the individuals who stood by him throughout it.’
It comes after Jim and Rob shared an encouraging update on their father’s recovery.
2022 saw them share that their father is maintaining an optimistic outlook following the surgery to remove a cancerous lesion from his mouth.
In my opinion, he’s thriving quite impressively, I shared during a chat with my brother James on the Sunrise show on Seven.
‘Every day is another step, and a step forward, as it is for everyone with cancer,’ he said.
‘And he’s just gotta keep moving forward and keeping positive, and you know, keep driving forward.’
At some point during the show, Rob seemed touched as Sunrise showed the audience a picture of John attending his son’s wedding in June.
The widely-shared photo, featuring a happy John posing with his son at their wedding, quickly gained popularity when Rob posted it to Instagram right after the ceremony.
Additionally, it was mentioned that John’s sons have agreed to serve as representatives for the Cancer Council during their Daffodil Day campaign.
On Instagram, the brothers disclosed personal aspects of their father’s health struggle before the upcoming fundraising event.
Initially, it turned out to be a mouth ulcer for him, but upon further examination, we discovered it was actually cancer. That period was incredibly tough on everyone, as Rob put it in the video.
Furthermore, James made an appearance and emphasized the significant part that campaigns such as Daffodil Day played in preserving his father’s life.
He pointed out, “We wouldn’t have our father with us if it weren’t for cancer research, which is why days like the Daffodil Day hold significant importance.”
Unfortunately, it seems that John might not be able to perform anymore due to a lengthy operation he had in 2022 to take out a tumor from his mouth.
26 medical professionals performed an operation on him, during which a significant portion of his lower jaw was taken out. Twelve months post-surgery, Farnham announced that he no longer had cancer.
