The highly-anticipated second season of the TV show “Peacemaker,” featuring John Cena in the lead role, has just released a sneak peek with their initial trailer.
The Max series, a spin-off from the 2021 film “The Suicide Squad,” centers around its namesake character (portrayed by Cena) as he embarks on a mission to secure peace, even if it involves great sacrifice. The upcoming second season will pick up where events in James Gunn’s “Superman” left off.
Before its debut on August 21st, Max unveiled the initial trailer for the new season. In it, we see Peacemaker and his team under surveillance by ARGUS following the appointment of Rick Flag Sr (played by Frank Grillo) as their director. However, this is not just any director; he has a long-standing grudge against Peacemaker.
With a flair reminiscent of Peacemaker himself, the narrative brims with sharp humor, blunt banter, and clever comebacks, all while serving up a hefty dose of stylized brutality. However, as his own actions are scrutinized, our protagonist is compelled to confront his past.
According to the logline summary, the upcoming season centers around Christopher ‘Chris’ Smith, who goes by Peacemaker as a superhero vigilante. He grapples with reconciling his past and finding a sense of purpose, all while relentlessly fighting against evil-doers in his pursuit of peace, even if it means making questionable compromises.

In this series, Cena is reunited with some familiar faces like Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Nhut Le, and Robert Patrick. Additionally, Grillo will be making his first appearance on the show, alongside other fresh faces such as Sol Rodríguez, Brey Noelle, and Tim Meadows.
Gunn, who wrote the scripts for every episode, hinted earlier about elements of the forthcoming season, revealing that it will have a deeply personal touch compared to typical superhero series.
According to the director, who’s helming the first episode of this upcoming season, it focuses more on the characters and their relationships with each other compared to the previous season. This time around, the story delves deeper into the life of character Chris Smith, rather than primarily revolving around Peacemaker.
Peacemaker returns on Max and Sky Max on 21 August.
