John Cena Thinks It Is “Best For Business” For Him To Main Event WrestleMania 41

In the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble contest, John Cena was among the top contenders to emerge victorious. Surprisingly, despite making it to the final two competitors, he unexpectedly lost when Jey Uso eliminated him, allowing Uso to claim the title instead. This undoubtedly marks a significant triumph for Uso, but it’s evident that Cena had hoped to secure the win in his farewell Rumble performance.

After the match, a visibly disappointed Cena warmly congratulated Jey, gave him a hug, and offered his well wishes. Despite the heartwarming interaction with the iconic wrestler, the 16-time WWE World Champion was far from pleased with his performance. Although he fell short at the Royal Rumble, there’s still an opportunity for him to compete in a World Title match at WrestleMania 41.

During the wrap-up press event following the show, Cena revealed his strategy to the public. In contrast to his past press interactions, this time Cena opted against answering questions and instead chose to deliver an announcement. John confidently declared that he will compete in the Elimination Chamber match and emerge victorious.

This would, quite clearly, give John Cena the ability to challenge for a World Championship.

Cena believes that, having dedicated several decades of his life to WWE, he rightfully earns this place in the chamber. Moreover, he contends that since his last WrestleMania main event a decade ago, he’s been used as a gimmick, appearing in various roles such as the opening match, sitting in the audience, making random appearances, being part of the mid-card, and so forth.

John Cena states that what would be most advantageous for him is to participate in the main event of WrestleMania 41 and secure his 17th WWE World Championship. Previously, he had taken actions based on what he perceived as being best for business.

DESPERATE MEN DO DESPERATE THINGS

John Cena attempted to portray himself as a determined man aiming to conclude his career on his own terms. To be objective, this idea does seem plausible. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that Cena has headlined WrestleMania multiple times. Moreover, he holds the record for tying the most World Championships at 16.

In simpler terms, while it’s true that he and Ric Flair have similar overall title counts, it’s important to note that Flair’s titles were mostly from NWA or WCW, not WWE. Therefore, John Cena currently holds the record for the most WWE World Championships.

It’s preposterous to insist that Cena should secure another World Championship and main event WrestleMania again before retiring as a necessary condition for his career conclusion. It’s reminiscent of a baseball legend hitting a home run in his final game, his last at bat, winning the World Series – what an incredible tale! The story itself is undeniably significant.

The question is, can one claim that it is necessary that Cena win that 17th World Title?

THE FACE THAT NOW RUNS THE PLACE

It’s indisputable that Cody Rhodes is currently the embodiment of the WWE, holding the title of either the Undisputed Universal Champion or the Undisputed World Champion, depending on the WWE’s recognition this week. There’s no debate left that he’s the one who steers the ship, known as “the face in charge.

For more than ten years, John Cena was firmly established in his role. He maintained the “leading figure” position in WWE longer than any other, including icons such as Steve Austin, The Rock, and even Hulk Hogan. Yet, every reign must come to an end, and eventually, it did for him. This was because WWE began to notice a surge of fresh talents who could potentially be the top star in the league.

It is the man who came and went that could embody this role significantly for today’s audience, surpassing others. John Cena may find a strong resemblance in Cody Rhodes, yet it was Rhodes who essentially concluded a significant chapter of his tale at WrestleMania 40. Cena aspires to wrap up his story in the most triumphant manner conceivable.

*Cue the horns*

It’s possible that Jey Uso clinched victory in the Men’s Rumble match, but many predict he’ll instead face Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. In such a scenario, they could headline Night #1 of WrestleMania. This would free up the Night #2 slot for a highly anticipated bout between Cody Rhodes and John Cena.

To sum up, Cena needs to emerge victorious from the Elimination Chamber match, but given who is expected to participate, this task may prove more challenging than it seems at first glance.

HAS CENA BECOME THE THING HE ONCE FOUGHT AGAINST?

Last year, you witnessed The Rock attempting to meddle with the WrestleMania schedule. Unlike last time, WWE seems to be handling things more intelligently now. However, Cena, in this scenario, shares similarities with The Rock. The key distinction is that he isn’t taking a title match away from someone who has rightfully earned it.

While it’s true that this could potentially be John Cena’s final WrestleMania, does that automatically entitle him to a title match or even the main event spot? He certainly needs to prove himself worthy, but considering his performance in the chamber may not be up to par, should he still be given these opportunities?

It’s been quite some time since Cena has managed to win any type of match within WWE, making it seem rather unlikely that he could unexpectedly defeat the company’s top performers. After all, this is the same individual who recently lost bouts against Solo Sikoa and Austin Theory. So, one might wonder, how could this man possibly regain his position at the pinnacle of the card?

There’s an element of improbability in accepting that a past, less experienced version of Cena could defeat today’s top WWE stars at the end of his career. Even though we often suspend disbelief in professional wrestling, WWE itself has acknowledged this very concern.

COULD THIS LEAD TO A JOHN CENA TURN TO THE DARKSIDE?

Many believe now could be an ideal moment to transition John Cena into a heel character. His actions, while professional on the surface, seem self-centered and driven by his own ego. He argues that “John Cena” should remain in the main event for business reasons, but this argument no longer holds water.

John Cena aspires to star in the headlining match of WrestleMania, aiming for his 17th World Championship title. He believes this is what’s best for him, and there seems to be no other option. However, will fans choose allegiance with a figure who has been divisive for more than a decade over a beloved champion who has held our emotions captivated for the last couple of years?

Despite our admiration for Cena, it’s highly improbable. This being John’s last year, the narrative opportunities are vast. Yet, the scenarios involving Cena as an antagonist are so captivating that WWE can hardly resist exploring them.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but ponder: Why wait when this year presents such an ideal chance to bring that intriguing concept to life? With John Cena’s time in the ring potentially dwindling, it seems like the perfect moment to let him play the antagonist we’ve longed for. If they don’t seize this opportunity, I fear the fans might just take matters into their own hands…and history suggests they probably will. After all, we’ve been eagerly awaiting a more complex, villainous storyline for Cena for years now.

Since we can no longer afford to postpone the villain’s change of heart in WWE, they must act promptly, or else the opportunity may be lost forever. This leaves us pondering numerous “if only” scenarios.
