Joey Lawrence’s wife Samantha Cope amends divorce petition weeks after initial filing

The news of his divorce from Samantha Cope, just a year after their blissful union, has left me in a whirlwind of emotions. According to a report by Us Weekly, Samantha Cope, the wife of Joey Lawrence, modified her divorce filing on October 8.

Following an initial submission on August 21st, the 37-year-old actress subsequently modified the document to request shared legal guardianship from the court over their 19-month-old daughter Dylan.

In simpler terms, Cope intends to be the only one with full physical custody of the child. Starting from when the child is three years old in January 2026, Lawrence, aged 48, has been granted permission for up to two overnight visits per week.

Additionally, the mother-of-one has blocked the court’s ability to award spousal support.

In the year 2022, Lawrence tied the knot with Cope, having first crossed paths on the film set for the Lifetime production titled “My Husband’s Secret Brother.

Before Samantha, Joey had been married to Chandie Yawn-Nelson from the year 2005 up until they declared their separation in July of 2020.

The exes share two children — daughters Charleston, 18, and Liberty, 14. 

According to TMZ, who examined court records, Copes stated ‘unresolvable disputes’ as the reason for her and Lawrence’s breakup. They reportedly parted ways in June of this year.

She told the court that she doesn’t wish for Lawrence to have prolonged visits with Dylan until he is ‘of an age where he can agree to such visits on his own.’

Additionally, it was suggested that she should have consent for any non-family members who her daughter interacts with when she’s with Lawrence, as reported by the source.

In August 2021, Us Weekly reported that Cope and Lawrence had announced their engagement. The actor expressed his excitement to the magazine, saying, “There’s a lot of fantastic things, a lot of truly wonderful things happening. She’s simply amazing.

In reference to their encounter during the coronavirus period, he stated, ‘Suddenly, amidst the chaos of an unusual 18 months for everyone worldwide, we found ourselves meeting.’

Later, when you’re not even anticipating it, extraordinary events unfold, and encountering her has truly turned out to be the most wonderful experience I’ve ever had.

He added: ‘When you least expect it, you know, you literally meet the perfect person for you, and all those intangibles come into play … and then you meet [the] right person.’

The exes tied the knot in May 2022 at the Temecula Creek Inn in Temecula, California.

At the given moment, Cope shared with People that her relationship with Lawrence developed swiftly, stating, “Right from the start, it felt like a secure space where I could truly be me. After just two weeks, I found myself thinking, ‘I will always be by your side.’

She expressed, ‘When you encounter the perfect match, if fortune smiles upon you, the connection can be instantaneous. I am fortunate to have someone who shares my thoughts and feelings, and we express ourselves in a similar manner. This is incredibly significant, and I am deeply grateful for it.’
