Joey King’s new movie Uglies confirms Netflix release date
As a huge fan of both dystopian sci-fi novels and Joey King’s acting abilities, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming release of “The Uglies” on Netflix! The long-awaited adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s beloved 2005 novel has finally seen the light of day after years in development hell.
Netflix has confirmed the release of Joey King’s dystopian sci-fi movie The Uglies.
The film is based on the 2005 novel “Uglies” by Scott Westerfeld, which the author announced on Twitter/X would be adapted. After going through production limbo, filming took place in 2021 and is slated for release on September 13.
In just under two months, I, as an excited fan of the book series, will have the pleasure of witnessing King take center stage as the hero, Tally Youngblood.
In a post-apocalyptic time, the film will recount the storyline of the initial novel. The focus will be on 16-year-old Tally, as she prepares for her cosmetic surgery – a procedure that transforms her from an “Ugly” into a “Pretty”.
When Tally meets Shay, another Ugly like herself who shares her birthday, she starts to doubt this protocol. Shay has no plans of transforming into a Pretty and invites Tally to join him at a lawless settlement called the Smoke, where they can live without restrictions.
Meanwhile, Tally is tasked by the government to help them locate the rebels.
I had the opportunity to play a role in the making of “The Uglies” movie. McG was at the helm as the director, with Jacobs Forman, Vanessa Taylor, and Whit Anderson contributing to the script. Alongside me, starring in the film were some amazingly talented individuals such as King, who also served as an executive producer. Additionally gracing the screen were Keith Powers, Brianne Tju, Chase Stokes, and Laverne Cox.
King was recently seen in Netflix movie A Family Affair opposite Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: In the romantic comedy I’m playing, I’m the assistant to a young and arrogant movie star named Chris, portrayed by Zac Efron. I’m going about my daily tasks when suddenly, I’m hit with a shocking revelation – Chris has started dating my dear old mom, Nicole Kidman’s character, Brooke! Oh no, this wasn’t part of the script!
The Uglies will become available to stream on Netflix from September 13.
