Joel Dommett reveals there could be two big surprises at National Television Awards following a summer of scandal
As a seasoned viewer of awards shows and a connoisseur of British television, I must say that this year’s lineup promises to be nothing short of electrifying! The anticipation is palpable, especially with Joel Dommett’s mysterious performance teaser. I can only imagine the amount of effort he’s put into perfecting his newfound skill set, and frankly, I can’t wait to see it unfold.
Joel Dommett playfully hinted at this year’s National Television Awards, preparing to emcee the grand event happening at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday.
The comic, aged 39, has subtly suggested that there might be significant unexpected events given the recent string of controversies he’s faced over the past couple of months.
Despite the ongoing investigation into bullying allegations involving professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, aged 34, BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing may anticipate that fans will choose to look past this issue. The show is optimistic that it can still receive recognition and win an award despite the situation.
But the host has hinted that viewers may not be so forgiving.
He told The Sun: ‘People want to know what we are projecting on telly is real and genuine.
When a viewer is comfortably seated at home, enjoying shows like This Morning, Strictly Come Dancing, or any other program, they have an interest in confirming that the beloved character they see on screen remains consistent, whether in the studio or at home.
‘And so when scandal rocks our industry in such a way, I think people start to mistrust.’
However the presenter added that there’s so much love for the long-running show that Strictly may be able to escape largely unharmed.
Joel noted that it requires significant effort to replace popular shows at the top, as audiences continue to crave more of them.
Additionally, it was disclosed that the management of Strictly felt pleased about being nominated in the Talent Showcasing category, sharing the list with shows like The Voice and MasterChef. In fact, Anton Du Beke from their team received a recognition by getting nominated in the Expert section.
The star presenter also hinted that there could be another shock in store after hinting that The Traitors could be set to overtake shows including Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
Joel subtly suggested that Claudia Winkleman might be nominated for awards, potentially even winning over fans to become a fresh favorite, dethroning the Geordie duo who have held the TV Presenter title for an impressive 22 years in a row.
As well as some possible surprises, viewers will be treated to an elaborate opening number.
At the awards ceremony, the host hinted at planning something unusual prior to mentioning that he needed to develop new abilities, requiring quite a bit of hard work.
As a lifestyle expert, I can assure you, my upcoming performance will take the audience by surprise in ways they never imagined. However, I must caution that there’s a high risk of things going awry. But if I manage to pull off this stunt, trust me, it will be nothing short of extraordinary!
8pm is when the show begins on ITV, and Joel will have support from Sam Thompson, the Jungle King, and his friend Pete Wicks during their red-carpet duties as co-hosts.
Among the nominees, Michelle Keegan from “Fool Me Once” and Leo Woodall of “One Day” find themselves in a fierce competition, vying for the prestigious title of Best Drama Performance Award.
Michelle, aged 36, portrays Maya Stern in the thriller series that co-stars with Joanna Lumley. This show is based on Harlan Coben’s novel and soared to number one on Netflix in January.
Simultaneously, at the age of 27, Leo found himself thrust into instant fame when he portrayed Dexter Mayhew in a romantic drama television series.
David Beckham has been nominated in the Authored Documentary category for a four-part series titled “Beckham,” which provides an intimate look at his marriage, early romantic relationship, family life, and football career.
His documentary amassed a record breaking 3.8million viewers during its premiere week.
As per the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB), a total of 3,813,100 viewers watched the initial broadcast.
The second instalment was also a success reaching 2,868,800 viewers by the week ending October 8.
For two weeks after its release, Beckham was the most-watched program on the streaming service, as reported by Netflix, with a worldwide audience of 11,600,000 viewers.
In a new dramatic production, Baby Reindeer features Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning vying for Best Dramatic Performance.
The Netflix series started quietly, yet it’s been a hit, accumulating almost 54 million views since its release on April 11th.
