Joel Dommett Faints at Mile 17, Wakes Up in Ambulance but Still Finishes London Marathon!

Joel Dommett shared that he awoke in an ambulance, having fainted at the 17-mile mark during the 2025 London Marathon on Sunday morning.

The 39-year-old comedian posted photos on Instagram showing him with paramedics, only a few hours after revealing his busy plans for the upcoming famous 26.2-mile race.

Joel shared that, although he had a moment of fear, he managed to complete the race later on, as he needed to spend a few hours under medical observation to ensure his heart rate returned to its normal level.

His statement can be rephrased as follows: ‘The race turned out differently than I anticipated! At the 17th mile, I fainted and don’t recall much, but I regained consciousness in an ambulance. A big thank you to Frankie and Barry for their fantastic assistance.’

I deeply desired to complete it. After spending a few hours, my energy returned, and I resumed with a completely new rhythm, but took the time to fully absorb everything. I feel quite proud for having achieved it.

Joel posted a picture of himself with his medal, along with an adorable photo of his baby boy Wilder. The little one needed a new onesie because dad didn’t manage to complete the race within the hoped-for three hours.

After Joel departed, his supporters were left astonished when he disclosed his demanding timetable, and it turned out that his race to the finish had started a full 24 hours prior, as he embarked on his journey from his residence in South West London.

After that, he made his way to Leeds for a comedy performance, followed by a two-and-a-half hour drive to Cambridge for the evening.

On Sunday morning, Joel slept for approximately six and a half hours without interruption, starting from the moment he arrived in Cambridge. He woke up at 6:30 am and left his hotel by 6:45 am to make his way to the Greenwich roundabout.

His detailed schedule, clearly displayed on a whiteboard and posted on Instagram, went beyond that. Before reaching the starting point for the marathon, he spent a half-hour warming up with a run.

I need to adhere to a three-hour break schedule so that my little one, Baby Wilde, can have a peaceful nap during our drive home.

After reaching home, assuming everything works out as planned, Joel will take an ice bath followed by a prearranged meal, and he is expected to be ready for pick-up at 4:45 pm to proceed with the filming.

Joel captioned the eye-popping post: ‘Swipe for some terrible planning and excellent carb loading.’

As an ardent admirer, I couldn’t help but notice the schedule for the upcoming event – it was chock-full of intriguing details! Among these, a captivating image of Joel’s running gear particularly caught my eye. It turns out, this sports enthusiast is using the marathon to support Brain Tumour Support, a cause that truly warms my heart.

Fans and celebrity friends were quick to flood the post with supportive comments.

Brain Tumor Support responded: “Wow, that’s quite a demanding plan for you, Joel! Many thanks for representing us admirably while tackling your challenge. You have our full support!

‘We are all cheering you on and will be tracking you from afar.’

A fan expressed gratitude saying, “For someone who underwent significant surgery this year to take out portions of her brain tumor, I am cheering you on, Joel, every step of the way!

Crush it, Joel! Sub 3 here we come!!!

In the meantime, fellow marathon runner Bryony Gordon plans to remember Joel’s routine when she starts grumbling during her own race.

She joked: ‘Lol i’m saving this for when i start complaining at mile 14.’

Joel isn’t running his first London Marathon this time around; in fact, he participated in it last year, all decked out as a piranha.

He told TCS London Marathon: ‘It was definitely the hardest marathon I’ve done.

‘Really had to dig deep. Lots of shouting to myself.

‘It probably weighs, I reckon, probably about 8kg, something like that.

‘The hard thing was it [the costume] was just banging against my head the entire time.’

Before this year’s competition, Joel shared on Instagram that he was relieved not to have the burden of wearing a costume anymore.
