Joe Bob’s The Last Drive-In: Nightmareathon coming to Shudder in August!
As a dedicated fan who’s been riding this horror rollercoaster for years, I can confidently say that the upcoming “The Last Drive-In: Nightmareathon” is the event of the season! It’s like reliving the magic of that 2018 marathon all over again, but with the added bonus of a whole series under our belts.
Enthusiasts of the Shudder Original Series “The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs” can recall vividly the marathon that marked its beginning. Following a long hiatus, the previous host of The Movie Channel’s “Joe Bob’s Drive-In Theater” and TNT’s “MonsterVision” reemerged in 2018 with a 24-hour marathon on Shudder. Originally, it was planned as a farewell event, a chance for him to bid adieu.
On July 13th, Shudder TV aired a special live broadcast that showcased timeless cult classics from drive-in theaters, including “Sleepaway Camp,” “Celebrity Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-A-Rama,” “Basket Case,” “Blood Feast,” and “Pieces.” In total, thirteen films were screened during this marathon. Notably, this event became infamous for overwhelming the servers, causing viewers to be disconnected while enjoying the show.
Following the massive victory of the marathon, Shudder has summoned Joe Bob, Darcy the Mail Girl, and the entire team of The Last Drive-In back for another series, now in its sixth term. Shudder recently revealed an entirely fresh special titled The Last Drive-In: Marathon of Nightmares, set to conclude season six.
The spooky event titled “The Last Drive-In: Nightmareathon” is set to air on Friday, August 30th at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, simultaneously on Shudder TV and AMC+ TV. Starting from September 1st, the show will be accessible on-demand on both streaming platforms. Although the movies that will be screened haven’t been revealed yet (JB tends to keep it a mystery until a week beforehand), we do know that Joe Bob Briggs, Darcy the Mail Girl, and some special guests will be joining in for an all-night party extravaganza!
Previous visitors on Joe Bob’s program have encompassed stars like Michael Berryman from “The Hills Have Eyes”, Felissa Rose of “Sleepaway Camp”, comedian Bobcat Goldthwait known for “Willow Creek”, Kelli Maroney who starred in “Chopping Mall”, the fearsome Kane Hodder famous for his role in “Friday the 13th”, Barbara Crampton from “Castle Freak” and horror host Svengoolie.
If you haven’t seen “The Last Drive-In” yet and would like to, don’t worry! You can still find the episodes on Shudder. However, keep in mind that some of the movies may no longer be available as their licensing agreements have ended for numerous ones.
