Jodie Whittaker confesses she is ‘too old to care’ about trolls who criticised her casting as the first female Doctor

Jodie Whittaker has admitted she’s reached a point where she doesn’t worry about negative comments from online trolls regarding her role as The Doctor.

In 2017, the 43-year-old English actress became the first woman to play the iconic role of the Doctor, succeeding Peter Capaldi.

The choice of the new Doctor sparked significant criticism from some fans, who were upset by the move away from traditionally casting white men in the role. The next Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa – the first Black and openly gay actor to take on the part – also faced online harassment.

Jodie has discussed how proud she is to be the first woman in the role, and shared her thoughts on the criticism she received.

She told The Times on Friday that the announcement, despite some initial negativity, was a truly joyful occasion for many.

People who spread negativity often make the most noise. Just because someone is angry and vocal doesn’t mean you need to engage with them – it’s draining, and frankly, I’ve reached a point where I don’t have the energy to bother.

This follows the release of the initial trailer for the upcoming ITV heist drama featuring Jodie and Suranne Jones.

The new show, *Frauds*, stars Jodie, 43, and Suranne, 47, as two women trying to commit a major art theft – what they hope will be the biggest of all time.

The teaser reveals the complex and humorous bond between two friends, introducing Bert (Suranne), who has been released from prison due to a serious illness.

After getting out, she finds her old partner, Sam (played by Jodie), and convinces him to help with one final heist.

The team faces many obstacles while planning the heist, but the biggest threat comes from the conflict between Bert and Sam, which could ruin everything and tear them apart.

I’m completely hooked on ‘Frauds’! It’s set in beautiful southern Spain, but don’t let that fool you – beneath the sunshine and hills, there’s a really gritty criminal world. It’s a complicated story about how far people will go, the bonds of friendship, and just trying to survive when everyone’s keeping secrets. It’s seriously addictive!

Bert proclaims: ‘We are going to steal a painting from the biggest gallery in Spain.’

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen plenty of stories unfold, and this one’s no different. Once the criminals decide which painting they’re after, they start assembling their crew. But the previews hint that putting this team together won’t be easy – it looks like things are going to get complicated, and they’ll face dangers of their own making!

At the end of the trailer, Bert ominously declares: ‘Trust nobody, kid.’

The show, which has finished filming, consists of six parts.

Aside from its leading ladies, the show has an all-star cast.

The cast also includes performances by Horacio Colomé, Christian Cooke, Talisa Garcia, Elizabeth Berrington, and Lee Boardman.

Suranne is not only starring in the series, but she’s also creating it with Anne-Marie O’Connor, who wrote the show *Hellraisers*.

She called the project a thrilling experience and complimented the show for offering a fresh, innovative take on the heist story.

Suranne described the past two years working on ‘Frauds’ with Anne-Marie O’Connor and ‘Monumental’ as an exciting and unpredictable experience.

We flipped the usual trope of difficult female friendships and used it to add real emotional depth to a heist story.

‘I have always wanted to work with Jodie, and now I am.

‘I hope you love Bert and Sam and all they get up to as much as we do.’

Fans of Suranne Jones will likely be excited to see the trailer, especially since she’s currently playing a British prime minister in the new Netflix drama, Hostage.
