Jodie Marsh admits she went from being paid £30k on photoshoots to being unable to pay her mortgage – as she reveals how she now makes £24k a month to pay for her farm
In reflecting upon Jodie’s extraordinary life journey, I am struck by her indomitable spirit and resilience in the face of adversity. From her humble beginnings as a Page 3 girl to becoming a successful businesswoman, farm owner, and animal rescuer, she has navigated the highs and lows with grace and determination.
Jodie Marsh has disclosed that her income from photoshoots dropped to £30,000 and left her in a state where she had no money at all and couldn’t afford to pay her mortgage.
In the Noughties, the former glamour model, aged 45, became well-known. Her high-profile feuds with other models, numerous reality TV appearances, and distinctive belts made her a regular tabloid headline.
Previously known for her celebrity status, she has now undergone a drastic change in her career path, opting to leave the limelight behind and manage an animal sanctuary situated in Great Dunmow, Essex – establishing Fripps Farm Animal Sanctuary in 2020.
During those intervening years, Jodie acknowledges that she’s taken some questionable actions regarding her finances, and she shared insights about her financial situation in a candid conversation exclusively with TopMob.
Growing up, Jodie attended the expensive private school, Brentwood School, which cost £10,000 per year. She was brought up by her mother Kristina Marsh, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2020, and her father John, who amassed their wealth through their scaffolding business.
Jodie clarified, “We didn’t have a fortune, but we weren’t struggling either. You should know that my father became successful despite being homeless at sixteen. He started with absolutely nothing.
Jodie went on to explain, “I wasn’t accustomed to wealth during my upbringing. While we certainly enjoyed some luxuries as children, I wouldn’t categorize us as being pampered.
‘We certainly knew the value of money and we never expected to just be given everything.’
As a diligent devotee, I’d share that Jodie frequently encountered ridicule at her exclusive school due to the absence of high-end fashion labels in my wardrobe.
I faced harsh ridicule and criticism for my non-designer clothes, with people claiming I was poverty-stricken and contemptible. My inexpensive outfits were mercilessly torn apart by them.
As children, we never owned designer clothing or shoes. It wasn’t until I turned 35 that I purchased my first pair of Louboutins.
Jodie also worked for her money in childhood, washing pots in restaurants from the age of 14.
For two years, she found herself employed at a nightclub, where she made £150 per night by taking care of high-profile clients and managing the entry list for guests.
‘I felt bloody rich!’ she joked about the sudden bump up in wages.
At the age of seventeen, Jodie made the decision to embark on a career in glamour modeling. In hopes that they would showcase her, she submitted an application to a gossip magazine.
She disclosed that they responded with a rejection letter. To put it mildly, they declined my request. This news left her heartbroken as she had endured years of bullying in school, where everyone labeled her as unattractive.
In my thoughts, I kept thinking, “I need to become a model. I want to show my tormentors that I am not unattractive.
Initially turned down by the Daily Star, Jodie eventually got an opportunity there and ultimately gained fame. Notably, the same newspaper that initially passed on her requested her as a featured personality later on.
At that point in time, I was already 23 years old, and it’s clear that their initial rejection still resonated deeply within me. Instead of following the usual route, I took matters into my own hands and negotiated directly with them. The outcome? A single photograph earned me an impressive £30,000, while other girls were receiving only £50 per shoot.
Later on in her life, Jodie eventually sought assistance with managing her finances. Furthermore, she disclosed that an individual took over the negotiations for her remuneration in a prominent television role.
In hindsight, I hadn’t noticed the contract details when I landed that job and was remunerated with £70,000. Fourteen years later, I discovered to my surprise that I should have received £150,000 instead, but unfortunately, I didn’t realize or receive the additional money.
‘This was before everything was digital. There’s probably not even a record of it.’
Jodie also reflected on the financial struggles she faced when she retreated from the spotlight.
Due to constant online harassment and unkind behavior from others, I became extremely frustrated. It got to the point where I felt uncomfortable in the spotlight, so I took a step back. Unfortunately, this also meant I struggled financially, to the extent that I couldn’t afford my mortgage payments.
‘I didn’t have enough money to pay any bills. I had no cash at all. I was in a difficult situation, so I turned to The Secret [a self-help book] for help and started keeping a gratitude journal.’
I recall jotting down in the gratitude journal that I desired a brand-new Audi Q7, and I chuckled as I penned it since I felt it was highly unlikely – I was in a tough financial situation back then.
Two years down the line, I stood triumphant as the American Bodybuilding Champion, shattering records left and right. With a gleam in my eye, I strode into the showroom, demanding the latest, top-tier Q7 special edition. Every bell and whistle was mine for the taking, and with a hefty sum of cash in hand, I proudly claimed it as my own.
‘I cried the whole way driving it home because I was like, I can’t believe this has happened.’
Jodie’s various career paths and highs and lows have been well documented over the years.
Another factor contributing to her constant visibility was the long-running, highly publicized verbal feud she had with Katie Price (formerly known as Jordan), a well-known figure in British tabloids at the time.
Currently, as Katie has filed for bankruptcy again, Jodie shared some straightforward guidance she’d give her well-known friend with whom she has a contentious relationship.
Jodie advises, “Cut back on your expenditures.” In simpler terms, she suggests saving more by reducing unnecessary purchases, including expensive surgeries. Keep generating income, but try to hold onto it instead of splurging.
There’s no one quite like Jodie when it comes to figuring out how to save money, given that she’s responsible for paying the monthly bills at Fripps Farm.
She revealed the monthly costs are a whopping £24,000, and as she notes that doesn’t include vet bills.
Additionally, unforeseen expenses sometimes crop up that they can’t always anticipate. For instance, Jodie shared an unexpected incident where they shelled out around £20,000 to save Maximus – a pony found abandoned and near death by the roadside.
Thankfully, Jodie was able to rely on her fans stepping in to help.
She clarified, “Our supporters were truly outstanding. They generously contributed to cover the expenses and donated for his veterinary costs. We wouldn’t have been successful without their assistance.
‘Maximus would be dead because nobody else was willing to help him.’
The key Jodie explained is asking people to donate only what they can afford.
“She stated that on these specific days, we offer a sound service for just a pound, making it affordable for most individuals, regardless of their financial situation, as they can manage a pound per month.
If an animal requires medical attention at the hospital and its care involves costs, instead of going directly to pay the bill, we share its situation on Instagram. In response, people typically donate small amounts at a time as a show of support.
If 20,000 individuals are contributing one pound each per month, that amounts to £20,000 every month, and indeed, we currently have such contributions.
As well as relying on donations, Jodie returned to her glamour model roots to help fund the farm.
She launched an OnlyFans account and has earned thousands selling X-rated photographs of herself.
Jodie shared: “To secure our entire farm with a fence, it required £65,000. I covered the entire expense using my earnings from OnlyFans.
‘For the first year my OnlyFans also paid all my staff. I never took a penny for myself.
Currently, my income from that source is roughly around two thousand dollars per month, as I’ve been quite preoccupied with taking care of the animals and haven’t had much time to focus on it.
“I’ve resumed my posts, which should increase activity now. Previously, while covering payroll for the team, I was making roughly £10,000 per month.
