The miniseries The White Princess premiered in 2017. It’s based on the historical novel of the same title written by Philippa Gregory.

Despite appearances, Elizabeth’s journey to secure the throne is far from easy. She faces suspicion surrounding her husband, interference from his mother, Lady Margaret Beaufort, and constant scheming from rivals, all while working to establish herself as Queen.

This series continues the story from the acclaimed Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning show, The White Queen, which originally aired in 2013.

Similar to the first installment, The White Princess received high praise from both viewers and critics, with many calling it a truly exceptional show.

Rotten Tomatoes gave The White Princess a 75% rating, with critics agreeing that the show features strong acting and a unique approach, offering plenty of drama for those who enjoy historical British royal stories.

According to Common Sense Media, if you enjoy historical dramas about the British royal family, you’ll likely find The White Princess to be a very enjoyable watch.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the show focuses on the main character’s experiences and accurately portrays the challenges faced by a new queen who is often in a vulnerable position.

According to The AV Club, while some characters and scenes were changed to heighten the drama, the story remains based on real events that make it incredibly compelling.

According to We Got This Covered, The White Princess is a light and entertaining show, though it occasionally veers into campy territory and feels a bit like a classic romance novel. Despite these quirks, they find it very watchable.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Jodie Comer, known for her role in Doctor Who, discussed how she prepared to portray a character from over 500 years in the past.

I connected with the character right away, even when I first read the audition scripts. I think it was because I really understood her teenage experiences, and I could relate to that part of her.

I think you probably see parts of yourself in the characters you’re reading. What I found more challenging was the story’s timeline – it covers seven years.

Because the story covers a significant period, we focused on illustrating her character’s development and how she matures over time. We avoided dramatic physical changes like altering her hair color or adding wrinkles, instead showing her aging process through her evolving personality and actions.

I hoped the audience would understand that she’s changed and become who she is because of everything she went through this season.
