Joanna Page reveals filming Gavin & Stacey makes her feel like a ‘pop star’ as huge crowds gather to cheer on actors in hopes of catching a glimpse of final ever episode
As a die-hard Gavin & Stacey fan, I must confess that following Joanna Page‘s journey through filming the final episode has been nothing short of exhilarating! It feels like being a groupie at a U2 concert, except instead of Bono, it’s Stacey herself who’s making my heart skip a beat. The Welsh actress’s experience of feeling like a pop star amidst the sea of fans is utterly captivating – I can only imagine what it would be like to be in her shoes (or high heels rather).
Joanna Page shared that working on Gavin & Stacey has given her a sense of being like a “pop sensation,” as large groups of people have flocked to get a peek at the set.
The 47-year-old Welsh actress, known for her role as Stacey in the sitcom since 2007, is currently residing in a hotel within Wales while the cast films the last episode of the series.
In an update from her hotel room during their Off The Telly podcast, Joanna chose not to reveal any specifics about the forthcoming Christmas special she’s working on alongside EastEnders legend, Natalie Cassidy.
However, she discussed her feelings about large groups of fans attending the actors’ filming sessions, as well as the tremendous encouragement they’ve shown.
She described it as quite amazing when they arrived in the car, got out, and the crowd reacted with a loud “Wayyy!” It made her truly feel like a popular music star or celebrity, she added, while filming in Wales.
Reflecting on the question from Natalie about my return to filming, I exclaimed, “Wow, it’s an absolute blast! I’ve been giggling non-stop, and it’s truly bizarre, incredibly so.
‘We’ve filmed in those specific locations, particularly with Nessa, and it has been a delight due to the bustling crowd. During our shoots, the beach would unexpectedly fill up with spectators, which is quite charming.’
She added: ‘And there’s so many dogs being brought down so I’m meeting all these different little dogs.
‘The public are coming and so are the fans. It’s absolutely gorgeous because it’s been pouring with rain recently but people are still coming down and standing to watch us. It’s really sweet, and bringing little gifts and presents. It’s lovely.’
Photos show massive gatherings of enthusiastic spectators attending the cast’s on-location filming sessions lately, yet Joanna mentioned that safety measures such as barriers have been installed to protect certain scenes from being revealed prematurely.
She said: ‘We’ve been filming down by Stacey’s house recently and we did have barriers up for the last special but the barriers are set back quite far apart now, really far down the road, so you can’t really see anything or what’s going on.
However, it’s quite surprising when you arrive in the car, step out, and the crowd responds with “Weyyy,” making you feel as if you’re a famous pop star for a moment.
Joanna mentioned: ‘For the time being, I’m relishing the moment since I’m aware that once it ends, I’ll be heading back home to my four kids, who’ll likely greet me with demands like “Mummy, can I have dinner? Mummy, I need this, I need that.” So, I’m cherishing the attention, as it won’t last for much longer.’
As a die-hard admirer, I couldn’t help but wonder what the Love Actually star had to share about the forthcoming special. However, she firmly maintained that any information about it was strictly off-limits and under wraps.
‘Everything is so secretive down her though,’ Joanna said.
Yesterday, I visited Marks & Spencer to purchase some bras. While shopping, a woman at the counter inquired about the hotel where I had received a massage earlier. Due to fear, I found myself unable to disclose this information. I remain hesitant to share anything regarding my hotel stay. At present, I can’t bring myself to say anything at all.
Enthusiasts of Gavin and Stacey were whipped into a flurry after noticing the cast shooting a wedding sequence for the eagerly awaited finale on Tuesday.
Following the Christmas special’s cliffhanger, it seemed like James Corden’s character, Smithy, might finally have his happily ever after with Ruth Jones’ Nessa, as he was spotted filming in a wedding attire.
Making a surprise return to the set was actor Steffan Rhodri – who plays Nessa’s ex-fiancé Dave Coaches – casting doubt on whether Smithy and Nessa will tie the knot after five years of speculation.
In a casual and stylish look, featuring a black leather jacket and an eye-catching patterned shirt, Steffan was captured as he made his way onto the film set alongside Julia Davis, portraying Dawn Sutcliffe.
In the final episode of the third season, he was last seen on Gavin and Stacey as Nessa called off their upcoming wedding.
His surprise return will no doubt spark worry from fans that Smithy declined Nessa’s proposal.
This week, it was observed that Nessa wasn’t present at the set, and additionally, she was spotted without a wedding band on her finger. This observation has added fuel to the rumors suggesting that the couple may not be getting married.
