The popular detective series, *Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators*, returns for a fifth season tomorrow, September 24th, after being off the air for almost three years. Actress Jo Joyner is thrilled about the new season, just like the show’s fans.
The actor, known for playing Luella Shakespeare, told *Radio Times* that they were very excited about the project. They have a real fondness for the show, especially because it’s filmed close to home and they enjoy working with the talented cast – they particularly appreciate the ‘boys’ on set.
She went on to explain that the show has built a wonderful community of viewers who appreciate its warm and comforting feel.

It’s incredibly heartening to see such positive support from our fans. It reminds you that people appreciate something wholesome and aren’t just drawn to negativity or violence. Honestly, it’s a relief and makes things a little brighter, and I’m really pleased about it.
Joyner shared that people ask her about this show more than anything else she’s ever been involved with, even *EastEnders*. She says she receives messages almost daily asking if it will return.

Over on IMDb, the show has a very respectable 7.6/10 average from 6,900 user scores.
I’ve been reading the reviews, and it’s awesome to see other fans agree with what Joyner said! A lot of us are really loving how the show manages to be funny and clever without relying on a ton of violence. One reviewer put it perfectly – it’s ‘almost free from graphic violence,’ and instead focuses on a really unique, quirky plot with tons of humor and irony. It’s just a really refreshing take!
One viewer admitted the title might seem a bit silly, but encouraged others not to judge the show too quickly, saying it’s actually quite good. Another praised it as a surprisingly funny and enjoyable show with a great cast and clever dialogue.

Joyner and Mark Benton return to Stratford-Upon-Avon to investigate more mysteries, but this time, there’s a significant change.
Season 5 episodes are actually premiering on U&Alibi, and will come to the BBC later on.
You can watch all four seasons of Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators on BBC iPlayer and NOW.
