JLS Star Opens Up About Baby Loss
In a recent conversation with TopMob, singer Oritse Williams shared insights on how he and his spouse Kazz navigated the difficult journey following the loss of their two babies.
38-year-old the JLS star shared that he and his spouse experienced two pregnancy losses prior to giving birth to their child, Shiva Zion, in November of the previous year.
He mentioned: “Our coming years will be distinct from one another. To give you an idea, it’s important to understand that, regrettably, my wife and I have experienced two miscarriages, resulting in the loss of our two unborn children.
However, now that I’ve departed from home, I return to find a stunningly beautiful infant son, undeniably the most beautiful baby in the world.
Talking about the significance of men expressing their feelings during difficult periods, he stated: ‘I think it’s crucial that men don’t bottle up their emotions, as many men, particularly black men, fear appearing weak or vulnerable, or being labeled as insecure or emotional.’
Expressing and accepting our emotions is crucial for our well-being, as it allows us to openly communicate them. Sharing our feelings is an essential part of this process.
From personal experience, losing our babies left me with an overwhelming emotion that lingered for quite some time.
‘My wife’s emotions, Kazz’s emotions, it was out there. She was battling with those emotions.
I assumed that by being strong for her, I was suppressing my feelings. One day, she asked me, “Don’t you ever feel anything?
In a moment of overwhelming emotion, I found myself crumpling into a heap on the floor, my tears spilling out uncontrollably. It was her kind words and gentle touch that soothed me, helping me regain my composure. To say I was a wreck would be an understatement.
Actually, let me put it another way: You realize that in that moment, I experienced a unique sense of liberation. It’s because there were so many emotions and feelings within me that had been building up, like a pot constantly boiling. These feelings seemed to circulate endlessly, yearning for release.
Besides having a 10-year-old son from a past relationship, Oritse is currently engaged in a legal battle with the son’s mother to gain custody of their young child.
He mentioned: ‘Once more, it’s the balance of life. For eight and a half years now, I’ve been striving for the right to see my firstborn son, but sadly, I still haven’t obtained that privilege. And it remains difficult, always weighing heavily on my heart.’
Every single day, instant, second, or minute that passes, I find myself reflecting on my eldest son. It has already been eight and a half years, but sadly, we can never regain that time. Neither he nor I can reclaim it.
‘That lost time won’t return; neither my family nor his grandmother, my mom, his uncle’s cousin and aunts can recover it. Once it’s over, it’s gone forever. And the weight of that loss continues to be substantial. I keep battling with all my strength, with every resource I possess.’
In discussing his resilience during challenging periods, he shared: “Firstly, I am grateful for my close-knit family and friends who shower me with unwavering love and support. Additionally, prayer has played a crucial role.
‘Prayer and having people and friends around me that pray with me.
spiritual healing, physical healing, and emotional healing. I discovered my physical healing through martial arts, my spiritual healing via prayer, and my emotional healing through music.
Indeed, I immersed myself deeply in everything, striving relentlessly to overcome numerous challenges life presented me.
Apart from that, he showed appreciation to his loyal supporters, acknowledging they stood by him during difficult periods.
He emphasized: “I feel compelled to shower my fans and supporters with an abundance of love, as they are the ones who have carried me throughout my journey. My fans are indeed battling for me.
Many strangers have shown incredible kindness by standing up for me during difficult moments in my life. I feel profoundly grateful and lucky, as it seems like an entire community is extending their help to me during challenging times.
As an ardent enthusiast, I wholeheartedly affirm that our existence unfolds like an extraordinary voyage. There will undoubtedly be moments of triumph and joy, as well as periods of struggle and melancholy – the ebb and flow of life’s tides. Such is the nature of our journey.
It’s important to remember that not all years will be extraordinary, and some might not be the most challenging we face either.
40-year-old Kazz had earlier shared that she discovered her pregnancy on the very same day when they attended a consultation with fertility specialists concerning In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
Following the meeting, I began feeling somewhat unwell, so I decided to take a pregnancy test, which turned out to be positive. I was utterly shocked by this development.
In a heartfelt confession, Kazz openly expressed feeling both joyful and apprehensive upon receiving the news. Moreover, she confided that the series of tragic setbacks left her battling severe anxiety.
The couple arranged for regular, personal weekly scans as a means of comforting each other by confirming everything was alright. During these sessions, it was discovered that Kazz had gestational diabetes, requiring adjustments in her diet.
In a heartfelt sharing, Oritsé expressed: ‘We’ve been touched by the care and affection we’ve been given. It came as a surprise to us that so many of our friends have experienced similar journeys.’
In the year 2019, marketing manager Kazz, who was previously a singer, came across Oritsé for the first time following their connection on social platforms.
The pair married in 2022 which he described as ‘one of the most magical moments’ of his life.

At the enchanting Zoëtry hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica, they exchanged vows in an intimate wedding ceremony attended by just five of their dearest friends, a day he likened to a fairy tale.
Before he started dating Kazz, Oritsé became a father to his son in the year 2014, with his former partner, Aimee Jade Azari. They separated in the year 2016, about a year and a half following AJ’s delivery.
In the year 2009, Oritse attained popularity as a member of the quartet JLS. Earlier, he shared that one major motivation behind his career as a pop artist was to provide financial support for his mother’s healthcare.
On Good Morning Britain in April, Oritse shared that he took on the role of primary caretaker when he was only 12 years old. At this time, his mother, his younger sister Naomi (who was just two), and his older brother Temisan (aged 10) needed his care.
The star called for additional aid for every caregiver under the age of maturity across the United Kingdom, reminiscing about his personal hardships in caring for his mother during his youth.
2023 saw Oritsé appointed as the Official Commonwealth Representative for Youth Caregivers at St. James Palace, where he was recognized by the Royal Family and ministers from Commonwealth nations worldwide.
At the event, he delivered a heartfelt rendition of a revised version of Stormzy’s “Hide and Seek,” using spoken word to narrate his personal journey as a young caregiver.
