JLo ‘the revenge divorce diva’ had every right to tell me to nick off the day I hatched a plan to meet her. But she didn’t… and quickly became my favourite celebrity
As I read through this heartwarming tale, I found myself utterly enchanted by the sheer audacity and luck of the storyteller. To have the opportunity to meet a global icon like Jennifer Lopez is a dream that many harbor, yet few actually experience. But here we are, witnessing an ordinary person’s extraordinary encounter with the one and only JLo.
On their second wedding anniversary, people have referred to Jennifer Lopez as ‘petty’ following her decision for a ‘revenge divorce‘ from Ben Affleck, as fans observed this action.
But my unexpected run-in with JLo is to this day is one of my most cherished celebrity encounters – even after she scolded me over the way I approached her.
Back in August 2016, while I was vacationing in New York City, I made a point to attempt reaching out to Lopez, a singer I’ve always admired greatly.
She was in town filming Shades of Blue with Ray Liotta.
If you’re familiar with JLo, you’d realize her mornings are quite regular. Normally, by 6 am, she’s already at the boxing gym or engaged in a workout session, followed by heading to work on set.
And with her gym just a stone’s throw from her apartment, she often walks -which gave me an idea.
Let me be transparent – some people may find this a bit unusual, yet I contemplated, “Why don’t I coincidentally cross paths with her as she heads to the gym?”
In essence, what’s the issue with experiencing a spontaneous fan encounter? It’s not as if I’m planning to spend $2,000 on a formal meeting – I have done so in the past for Britney Spears, and I hold no regrets about it!
In the end, my friend and I weren’t sure about the gym she planned to visit that morning, so we chose to err on the side of caution and hung out near her apartment instead.
Surprisingly, it turned out that our chauffeur had been observing us for quite some time and had discreetly informed my client ahead of time about a few enthusiastic admirers waiting just around the corner.
An hour or so passed, and then I spotted her.
As someone who has spent years observing people and their interactions, I must say that encounter with JLo was one of the most memorable moments in my life. It wasn’t just her celebrity status that made it special; it was the unexpected turn of events that unfolded.
Now, I won’t lie – she was not happy.
To put it simply, she made it clear that she’s open to meeting and taking photos with you all around the city, as well as signing items at another time. However, she emphasized that now isn’t the ideal moment or location for such activities.
It’s quite clear, isn’t it? However, here’s an interesting point – most celebrities usually delegate this task to their personal assistants or bodyguards. But not JLo, she did it herself.
1) She took care of it independently, and I have great admiration for that. Moreover, she proposed the idea of meeting up on set instead, an approach I found much more effective.
As a die-hard fan, I seized the opportunity when my assistant hinted at the possibility of meeting her during filming, if we were patient enough. With fingers crossed and heart pounding, I hailed an Uber and ventured across town, eagerly anticipating catching a glimpse of her on set.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t get anywhere near her dressing room.
She was busy filming an outdoor scene with Liotta, and though I made eye contact with her a few times, she kept putting a finger up to signal ‘just a minute’.
On a couple of occasions, I found myself anticipating the event, yet secretly losing hope as the moments passed without managing to snap a selfie with her.
As the crowd around the set grew, security started moving people along. But then, something unexpected happened.
One of the security guards pointed to us and walked us over to her dressing room.
Moments later, JLo herself popped her head out and told us she’d be with us in a minute.
She was dressed casually in a pair of sequinned tracksuit pants, a crop sweater, and sunglasses—still looking every bit the superstar.
Upon arriving, she provided us with another soft reminder that it’s appropriate to encounter her on set, rather than outside her residence.
Afterward, she posed for pictures with us, autographed all our items, and also expressed affectionately toward Australia.
It was an incredible moment, and honestly, being told off by JLo was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had.
