JJJJound Transforms Its Packaging Into Artisan Lamps Crafted by Gyuhan Lee
Summary
- JJJJound has partnered with Korean artist Gyuhuan Lee to release a special collection comprising two paper lamps set for release on June 5.
- Each lamp utilizes JJJJound’s packaging materials combined with Korean Hanji paper, resulting in a unique piece of collectible homeware.
In a new twist for JJJJound, their latest partnership moves away from traditional fashion endeavors towards introducing an exclusive lamp, designed by Korean artist Gyuhuan Lee. This innovative piece is constructed using the label’s packaging materials. The design strategy aims to expand the utility of packaging beyond its standard role. By bridging branding, consumer culture, and age-old craftsmanship, this creative approach delves into the timeless juncture where these elements intersect.
Based on the design principles of minimalist architecture, these lamps have a sleek square structure and are available in both short and tall versions. When not in use, they appear like ordinary cardboard boxes, but once lit, they emit a cozy, soft light that elevates the lamp into a sophisticated piece of home decor, worthy of collection.
Lee, renowned for his elegant creations made from recycled paper goods, incorporated JJJJound’s paper bags and adhesive tape into his latest project. Drawing on his deep roots in Eastern artisanship, the artist combined these modern materials with Korean Hanji paper, a venerable textile used in antique interiors. The finished piece showcases a harmonious blend of contemporary mass-produced elements and traditional craftsmanship, reflective of JJJJound’s design philosophy that frequently emphasizes subtle improvements to existing designs.
Previously, Lee has repurposed a variety of items such as McDonald’s Happy Meal bags, Nike shoeboxes, and Hermès Plein Air blotting papers to make one-of-a-kind furniture and lighting. This style aligns with an expanding trend in design where everyday, recognizable materials are reinvented for innovative, new creations.
The JJJJound x Gyuhuan Leee lamps are set to drop on JJJJound.com on June 5 at 12 PM EST.
