Jimmy Kimmel References Epstein as He Speaks Out Against Trump, Who Warns He’s ‘Next’ in Late-Night TV Cancellations
Jimmy Kimmel is responding to President Donald Trump following the controversy over Stephen Colbert’s talk show cancellation. Soon after the news broke, Kimmel shared a photo on social media of him and his family participating in a “Good Trouble” protest, which were nationwide anti-Trump Administration demonstrations inspired by the late civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis.
Kimmel and his family were spotted carrying signs with messages such as “America Needs to Improve” and “I Wish We Had a Better Leader.” However, it was Kimmel’s accompanying commentary that was particularly incriminating, given the ongoing controversy surrounding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Kimmel expressed excitement for a summer family vacation, using the hashtag “#goodtrouble.” He then added, “May each day bring another beautiful mystery.” This phrase in Kimmel’s caption seems to allude to a Wall Street Journal article published on July 17, which stated that Trump used similar language in a suggestive birthday card he wrote to Epstein in 2003. The card allegedly read: “Happy Birthday—and may every day bring another wonderful secret.
Trump asserts that he didn’t compose the letter and has initiated a lawsuit against the publishers of The Wall Street Journal (Dow Jones) and Rupert Murdoch, the proprietor of NewsCorp.
Shortly following Kimmel’s post, Trump expressed his own sentiment on Truth Social, congratulating the cancellation of Colbert’s program.
Trump expressed his displeasure towards Colbert getting fired, stating that he believed Colbert’s talent was inferior to his ratings. He then predicted that Jimmy Kimmel would be next, suggesting Kimmel has even less talent than Colbert. In addition, Trump criticized Jimmy Fallon, the host of The Tonight Show, saying Greg Gutfeld surpasses all of them, including the individual on NBC who allegedly ruined the previously outstanding Tonight Show.
Kimmel quickly expressed his backing for Colbert on late-night TV after the announcement, posting on Instagram stories: “I adore you Stephen. I’ve got some choice words for you and all your Sheldons, CBS,” which appears to be a nod towards CBS’s sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” and its related spinoffs.
The termination of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” scheduled for May 2026, occurred just a few days following Colbert’s comments on his program concerning the $16 million settlement between CBS’s parent company, Paramount, and Donald Trump.
In his segment, Colbert referred to the agreement as a “substantial payoff,” implying that the company aimed to secure approval from the Trump Administration for their merger with Skydance Media. Despite CBS stating that the show’s termination was solely due to financial issues, there continues to be debate on the subject.
Elizabeth Warren posted on social media, stating that CBS ended Colbert’s program only three days after he criticized Paramount, CBS’s parent company, over a $16M settlement with Trump, which she believes appears like bribery. Warren is questioning if the show was terminated due to political motives and has previously called for an investigation into this matter.
Meanwhile, this is not Kimmel’s first foray into the Epstein saga.
Back in early 2024, football player Aaron Rodgers grabbed attention for incorrectly implying that Jimmy Kimmel’s name could be found in court papers linked to Epstein. In response, Kimmel chose to take legal action against Rodgers.
In response,
“To set the record straight, I have never encountered, traveled with, visited, or had any interaction whatsoever with Epstein, and you won’t find my name on any legitimate list. However, it appears that some people struggle to discern fact from fiction, as suggested by your careless statements. But if you continue down this path, we will address the details more thoroughly in a court of law, as your words may have put my family at risk.” (Posted on X on Jan 2, 2024)
Kimmel has been extremely outspoken in his criticism for Trump over the years.
Last year, while hosting the Oscars, Kimmel posed a question: “Aren’t you beyond your sentence?” This was in response to an unfavorable critique by Trump of Kimmel’s monologue earlier that night. It is known that Kimmel has been vocal about his disapproval of Trump’s management regarding gun violence and immigration issues.
In June, when Trump deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles to suppress protests linked to his large-scale deportation policies, Kimmel labeled Trump as a “fire-starter with a fire hose.” This comment was made during a period when criticism was mounting over the President’s move to dispatch the National Guard without California Governor Gavin Newsom’s request.
