Jimmy Fallon Reveals How He Handles Public Criticism and Keeps Moving Forward

It’s safe to acknowledge that Jimmy Fallon has achieved quite a bit in his career. He first appeared on Saturday Night Live back in 1998 (available for streaming with a Peacock subscription), and later, he was given the opportunity to host his own late-night talk show in 2009. It’s no secret that Fallon’s stints as a host, acting roles across film and TV, and his return to SNL after leaving have made him a familiar face in many homes. However, with fame comes criticism, and recently, the star has shared how he handles it.

In a recent episode of “The Diary Of A CEO” podcast, the host of “The Tonight Show,” shared his experiences of being in the limelight with the show’s host, Steven Bartlett. When questioned about aspects of fame he hadn’t anticipated, Fallon mentioned dealing with rejection, having his sketches rejected, and facing criticism from those who deemed him as not funny. He highlighted that this occurred before the era of Twitter, making it a completely different scenario.

It may seem as though everyone’s cheering you on, saying things like “This is amazing, it will be fantastic!” However, not everyone wishes you success. Some individuals secretly hope for your downfall and spread negative publicity about you. This is part of their job description. I personally don’t subscribe to such a reality, but unfortunately, it does exist. And it can sometimes feel like people are being unnecessarily cruel.

Regrettably, when it comes to famous individuals, negative attention such as criticism, disapproval, and unfavorable publicity often come along with the job. Although this is a common occurrence, it’s still disheartening to witness people dedicating themselves to tearing others apart. However, it seems that Fallon tends to ignore most of it and instead concentrates on his work. The entertainer underscored this point as he continued conversing with Steven Bartlett.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve learned to thicken my skin and trudge through the tough times, all while keeping my humor alive and creativity flowing. If I manage to filter out the criticism, it becomes apparent that it’s not genuine – it’s more like background noise that doesn’t truly impact me. The only thing I can trust is self-belief, knowing that I must continue on this journey. And if I keep delivering quality work, my efforts will shine through.
