Jimmy Carr hints he will never retire from comedy as he hopes to ‘die with his boots on’

Jimmy Carr suggested he plans to continue performing comedy for the rest of his life, telling an interviewer on Friday that he wants to ‘die with his boots on‘ – meaning he wants to be performing until the very end.

The 53-year-old comedian, who has faced numerous controversies, admitted he’s often wondered which joke would finally lead to his cancellation, but says he has no plans to change his act.

Jimmy recently shared on The Chris Moyles Show that he enjoys his work so much, he considers it more enjoyable than leisure activities, and therefore has no plans to retire.

Chris started by recounting a conversation they had with Dominic. Dominic had wondered if Jimmy would eventually reach a point in his life where he’d decide he was finished with whatever they were discussing.

I immediately said, “Definitely not! I believe he’ll be remembered forever.” I truly think he’s going to become a comedy legend – one of the greats who will be talked about for years to come.

‘Like, we have certain living legends of comedy still with us, and you will always be doing it.’

Jimmy said he’d love to stay active and working until the very end. He jokingly added that he actually enjoys his work more than leisure time!

I truly appreciate having a job I enjoy. But when I have a night off, it reminds me that I also need to find something to watch – it’s a bit of a shift from work mode to relaxation mode!

I usually perform two shows each night. Right now, I’m playing larger venues like arenas, but typically I have one show at 7:00 PM and another at 9:30 PM.

Jimmy recently spoke positively about Graham Linehan, a writer and comedian who was arrested for expressing anti-transgender views on Twitter.

Graham Linehan, the writer known for shows like Father Ted and The IT Crowd, was arrested by police at Heathrow Airport last month. The 57-year-old had just arrived from Arizona and was held on suspicion of encouraging violence.

He has since been told he will face no further police action over the social media posts.

Now footage has emerged from Jimmy performing in the US, where he heaped praise on Linehan.

This led Linehan to share that Carr had reached out to him during a difficult time, when he was working to resolve issues in both his personal life and his job.

During his ‘Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny’ tour stop in Minneapolis, the comedian invited the audience to send him questions.

Someone had messaged: ‘Welcome to Minnesota, Jimmy. Got any jokes that’d get you in trouble at Heathrow Airport?’

Shortly after, another audience member shouted: ‘Where’s Graham Linehan.’

Jimmy responded, saying he was a huge fan of Graham Linehan. He pointed out that regardless of your opinions on Linehan or J.K. Rowling, what’s truly lacking in society today is courage.

He’s incredibly brave. It’s become easier to acknowledge that people have different identities and that a small number choose to live lives that don’t conform to traditional expectations, and we should let them.

When he first started talking about it, it was unbelievably powerful – he truly risked everything he had.

He experienced devastating losses – his family, his job, everything he owned. To make matters worse, he was arrested at the airport. It was a completely chaotic situation. It’s a stark reminder of how important the First Amendment is, and we should always value that freedom.

You know, when I go through tough times, it really means a lot when people reach out. I recently learned that Jimmy was one of the very few comedians who actually came to see me, and honestly, it was incredibly touching, even though we weren’t super close. It just showed a real level of kindness and support that I’ll always appreciate.
