Jimmy Carr fastest-rising star
After the teaser for the eagerly awaited new Superman movie was revealed on Monday, everyone seemed to be expressing the same enthusiasm.
It’s been pointed out that the actor portraying Superman, David Corenswet, shares a strong physical likeness with the popular British comedian, Jimmy Carr.
Many people online have noticed a strong similarity to Jimmy, a 52-year-old man renowned for his witty sarcasm.
On July 11, 2025, the upcoming movie helmed by director James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy fame, will be released in cinemas.
People penned on X: ‘I didn’t know @jimmycarr was going to be the next Superman.’,
‘Jimmy Carr being Superman was not in my 2025 bingo card.’,
‘Didn’t realize Jimmy Carr was the new superman.’,
Apologies, but it seems to me he resembles Jimmy Carr in the role of Superman. At the moment, my enthusiasm for this film isn’t particularly high.
‘Jimmy Carr as Superman?’,
‘Even if Jimmy Carr was legitimately playing Superman, he’d STILL be better than Henry Cavill.’
‘What on earth is this place? It doesn’t look like Jimmy Carr, but rather someone else, by the way, let’s make Jimmy Carr popular online.’
The first trailer for the hotly-anticipated new Superman film was released just before Christmas.
However, it was not Superman, portrayed by David, who stole the show; instead, it was an unanticipated quadruped co-star – his canine companion Krypto.
Or even more informally:
Yet, it wasn’t David as Superman who took center stage; that honor went to a surprising furry friend – his dog Krypto.
In the trailer, the lovable dog heroically saves its owner who finds themselves stuck in a frozen landscape.
Following a fall from the heavens, the wounded superhero emits a whistle, causing his canine companion to sprint swiftly through the snow and reach him.
‘Krypto, home. Take me home,’ Superman says.
The tiny dog then bites onto his owner’s red cape and effortlessly pulls him through the snow.
One viewer found the dog in the movie particularly noteworthy, stating that it was the main factor compelling them to consider going to the cinema.
As a devoted admirer, I must confess that it’s Krypto the Dog who single-handedly has me hooked on the #Superman movie.
‘We need a Krypto solo movie,’ another said.
One viewer exclaimed, “The trailer is fantastic, but seeing Krypto in it immediately prompted me to purchase tickets on the first day! I have a soft spot for dogs since I own two of my own.
A user remarked that James Gunn had stated, “You all found Groot and Baby Yoda adorable? Get ready!” In other words, they were suggesting that people should prepare themselves for something even more impressive. They used the hashtag #Superman and #Krypto to hint at the upcoming reveal of these new characters.
‘Indeed. Krypto gonna be the star,’ one agreed.
‘Krypto!!! The Superdog will steal the show!! #Superman,’ one other noted.
In my perspective, while the latest Superman portrayal is commendable, what truly stands out about that film is none other than the unforgettable Krypto, the Superdog.
The trailer received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from fans, with one spectator claiming that the sneak peek sent shivers down their spine.
They expressed excitement about the upcoming Superman movie, mentioning that the trailer left them with chills, hinting at high anticipation for the quality of the film. It seems visually promising to them.
In the realm of digital entertainment, I couldn’t help but be swept away by the outpouring of praise on YouTube. One enthusiast exclaimed, “This is the emotion I was craving! A mix of immediate hope, nostalgia, and a forward-looking spirit! James Gunn, you’ve rescued us! You’ve reintroduced our Superman!” In essence, they were expressing their gratitude for a revitalized sense of optimism and connection to the past, all while looking towards an exciting future.
On July 11, 2025, the fresh movie helmed by James Gunn, who directed “Guardians of the Galaxy,” will premiere in cinemas.
The thrilling trailer starts off showing Superman summoning his pet, followed by glimpses of him as a reporter named Clark Kent being displayed.
In a casual rephrasing, here’s how I would put it: Kent strolls through the bustling newsroom of The Daily Planet, encountering his romantic interest and colleague Lois Lane (played by Rachel Brosnahan). Later on, he is seen returning home to be with his father figure, Pa Kent (portrayed by Pruitt Taylor Vince).
His vast power is clearly demonstrated, as he saves a young girl from an explosion and fights off numerous scary adversaries.
Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) also makes an appearance in the trailer.
Additionally, characters from the DC Universe such as Guy Gardner (played by Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (portrayed by Isabela Merced), and Mister Terrific (acted by Edi Gathegi) also appear in brief roles.
In a continuation of actors portraying Superman on the silver screen, Corenswet is added to the list, starting from a 1948 film serial featuring Kirk Alyn.
1951 saw George Reeves as the leading man in the initial Superman movie, while it was Christopher Reeve who portrayed the iconic superhero in a major studio production of Superman in 1978, marking his first significant appearance on the big screen.
In subsequent films, he took up the role again in Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. After that, he decided to end his association with the series.
1995 marked a significant change in Reeve’s life, as he suffered paralysis from the neck down due to an incident involving a horseback ride.
In October 2004, the actor known for his role in The Remains of the Day entered a coma and passed away only hours later at the age of 52.
After that, Brandon Routh portrayed Superman in the 2006 movie Superman Returns, while Henry Cavill assumed the role in Man of Steel (2013), followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017).
Instead of following the usual pattern seen in many Superman movies where we delve into his origin story, the new Superman film will concentrate on the character at around 26 years old, bypassing the traditional introduction.
The movie marks the beginning of a fresh franchise spearheaded jointly by James Gunn and DC Studios Co-Chairman Peter Safran. Later, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is scheduled to hit the screens on June 26, 2026.
