Jimmy Barnes rushed to hospital in ‘unbearable pain’ as he cancels Cold Chisel tour amid new health scare following open heart surgery
As a dedicated follower of Jimmy Barnes’ illustrious career, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing about his latest health scare. The man is nothing if not resilient, having weathered numerous storms and come out stronger on the other side.
Renowned rocker, Jimmy Barnes, faces another health challenge following his open-heart surgery and hip replacement procedure.
68-year-old Cold Chisel’s founder shared on social media over the weekend that he was canceling the remaining performances of his ongoing Hell of a Time solo tour.
Jimmy shared with his followers that he needed hip surgery due to intense pain he felt after performing a string of shows in New Zealand.
The actor, who had an open-heart operation last year after a hip replacement in 2022, is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Cold Chisel tour marking their 50th anniversary, which is set for October.
‘I’ve got some bad news unfortunately,’ Jimmy said in his Facebook post.
On my departure from captivating Dunedin, New Zealand, on Thursday morning, I experienced a subtle nudge in my hip. As the day progressed, the discomfort escalated to an intensity that left me breathless by evening. Consequently, I found myself seeking medical attention at the hospital.
As a seasoned patient who has been through numerous health challenges, I can confidently say that the advice from these doctors is nothing short of urgent and effective. Having learned from past experiences, I understand the importance of prompt action when it comes to medical procedures. The suggested remedial treatment, followed by physiotherapy, sounds like a solid plan to tackle this issue head-on. These doctors don’t mess around – their recommendations are based on extensive knowledge and experience, and I trust them implicitly. I’m ready to take action as soon as possible to ensure the best possible outcome for my wellbeing.
‘Providing all goes to plan, I’m expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.’
Jimmy added: “Unfortunately, due to the unanticipated surgery, my August and September solo exhibitions are going to be affected.”
In the upcoming days, those who have tickets can expect to receive additional details as soon as we finalize our new arrangements.
In alignment with my commitment to delivering top-notch performances and avoiding any disappointment, I regret to inform you that a change in my schedule is necessary. While I deeply dislike having to reschedule shows, the quality of my gigs is paramount to me. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as I navigate through these adjustments.
The post contained a photo showing Jimmy, lying in his hospital bed, giving a thumbs-up, with his wife Jane standing next to him, smiling as well.
Jimmy has some cancelled performances lined up: shows in Wyong, Toowoomba, Thirroul, Canberra, and even at the Sydney Opera House.
Just last month, I’m pleased to say that I seemed to be making a strong recovery after the unexpected health crisis I faced last year, which required open-heart surgery.
The singer looked fit as a fiddle as he ‘worked out’ in a boxing ring.
On a vacation with his spouse, Jane, in Thailand, he posted a picture on Instagram showing him working out at the upscale hotel fitness center.
In a delightful photo, the musician from The Working Class Man was beaming with joy while playfully posing like a boxer, humorously suggesting a mock sparring match.
In the photograph, he appeared both vigorous and self-assured, showcasing his characteristic mischievous smile towards the lens.
Jimmy titled the picture with some thoughtful thoughts: “It’s beneficial to maintain physical activity and movement while staying at hotels and traveling.”
As a seasoned traveler with a penchant for fitness and martial arts, I must say that stumbling upon a hotel gym boasting a Thai boxing ring was quite a find! It brought back memories of my youth when I practiced this exhilarating sport in Bangkok.
Toward the end of last year, Jimmy suffered from a severe infection that targeted his heart. Fortunately, he underwent and successfully recovered from open heart surgery.
A group of experts found that he was experiencing organ failure due to an infection in his bloodstream leading to endocarditis, a severe inflammation of the heart, which can be fatal.
During the course of a lengthy, nearly seven-hour operation, the medical team successfully mended his damaged valves and restored his heart, as they informed him he had only a few hours left to live before being wheeled into the operating theater for open-heart surgery.
After spending eight months, Barnes’ recuperation has been progressing favorably, and he has just shared that his band, Cold Chisel, will be setting off on a nationwide tour towards the end of this year.
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news as a lifestyle enthusiast! Back in June, the organizers unveiled additional performances for what we all know as ‘The Big Five-0’ tour. This legendary lineup includes none other than Jimmy Barnes, along with his bandmates Ian Moss, Phil Small, and Don Walker. It promises to be an unforgettable experience!
The tour has proven to be a massive success following the news from Chisel Chisel Management that over 150,000 tickets have been snapped up for their performances in sixteen locations across the country.
