Jimmy Barnes reveals staph infection has 'hit his hip' as he shares health update and reveals whether he will continue tour

As a dedicated follower and admirer of Jimmy Barnes, I find his resilience and unwavering spirit truly inspiring. His journey, marked by numerous health challenges, yet punctuated with triumphant returns to the stage, is a testament to his love for music and his indomitable spirit.

Jimmy Barnes, the iconic Australian rocker, has provided an update about his well-being after a recent operation and declared his intentions to rejoin Cold Chisel onstage once more.

The singer, 68, who had been grappling with both hip replacement and open-heart surgery, shared his progress after enduring another health scare in August.

The lead singer of Cold Chisel disclosed that the persistent staph bacteria, which earlier affected his heart, has resurfaced, now targeting his hip.

Barnes mentioned to The Daily Telegraph on Sunday that Staph infections tend to conceal themselves in areas such as scarred tissues or artificial limbs.

‘It decided to throw a party in my back and heart last year, and now it’s hit my hip.’

The legendary rock performer had to push back his scheduled solo “Hell of a Time” tour in August due to an unexpected hospitalization in New Zealand. After several performances, he endured intense pain that required medical attention.

Regardless of the obstacle, the Cold Chisel 50th anniversary tour planned for October continues unchanged. Soon, fans can look forward to watching them perform live once more with this legendary group.

In a touching post on Facebook, Barnes shared about the sudden requirement for an operation he was facing and expressed his regrets to his followers.

‘I had a twinge in my hip when I was leaving Dunedin, and by the evening the pain was unbearable. The doctors are moving fast, but I’m expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.’

The post was accompanied by a photo of Jimmy in a hospital bed, giving a thumbs-up, with his wife Jane by his side.

Enthusiasts showed tremendous enthusiasm, and the musician promised that the delayed concerts, such as those planned for Wyong, Toowoomba, Thirroul, and Sydney, will be rearranged in the near future.

Regardless of his health challenges, Barnes remains hopeful, attributing his passion for music as a driving force behind his healing process.

He mentioned that he’s engaging in daily physical therapy, covering considerable distances while lifting weights, and now even incorporating singing into his routine.

I can hardly wait to perform music again – it’s really been my healing balm throughout this process. That’s why I think I’ve bounced back so quickly.

Staphylococcal infections are caused by bacteria, and they can become life-threatening when the bacteria spreads deeper within the body or enters the bloodstream.

Previously this year, Barnes shared a lighthearted photo from his trip to Thailand, which depicted him inside a boxing arena.

‘This is the first hotel gym I’ve found with a Thai boxing ring. I can see another hip replacement… Maybe not,’ he joked, displaying his trademark humour and resilience.

Despite the recent challenges, Barnes remains focused on getting back to his passion.

‘It’s a joy to play music again,’ he said, eager to return to the stage later this year.

This year’s Cold Chisel 50th anniversary tour, known as “The Big Five-O,” has already garnered a lot of excitement with over 150,000 tickets sold across 16 shows, positioning it among the most eagerly awaited tours of the season.
