Jimmy Barnes reveals he was visited by the ghost of his dead bandmate as he recovered from heart surgery: 'It was so real, I touched him'

As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience under my belt, I find Jimmy Barnes’ tales of supernatural encounters and health challenges incredibly captivating. His life story is a testament to resilience, passion, and an unwavering love for music that continues to inspire generations.

Jimmy Barnes shared that he’s encountered phenomena beyond ordinary understanding, which remain unexplained to him.

An iconic Australian rock star thinks it’s possible that he encountered spirits, among them his stepfather Reg Barnes and the late drummer of Cold Chisel, Steve Prestwich.

In 2011, at the age of 56, Steve passed away after undergoing a procedure to extract a brain tumor. In more recent times, as Jimmy was recuperating from heart surgery, he felt that Steve, who had agreed to reassemble Cold Chisel for a tour, made contact with him in a dream.

According to Barnes, as shared in a snippet from his upcoming book, ‘Highways and Byways’, he had the dream concerning our tour planning approximately eight months ago.

Upon waking, I climbed out of bed and made my way downstairs. I found myself unwilling to return to slumber as the experience felt incredibly vivid. I reached out and actually touched him.

‘I just wanted to enjoy being with my mate, because he felt so close’.

Lately, Barnes has disclosed some news about his health post-recent surgery and expressed his intention to reappear on stage alongside Cold Chisel.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve followed the journey of the 68-year-old artist who has faced significant medical challenges, including hip replacement and open-heart surgery. Recently, he updated us on his progress following another health setback in August.

The lead singer of Cold Chisel disclosed that a persistent staph bacteria, initially affecting his heart, had resurfaced, now targeting his hip on this occasion.

Barnes mentioned to The Daily Telegraph that Staph infections tend to conceal themselves within areas such as scar tissues or artificial limbs.

‘It decided to throw a party in my back and heart last year, and now it’s hit my hip.’

Due to an unexpected hospitalization in New Zealand, the legendary musician had to delay his solo “Hell of a Time” tour originally scheduled for August, as he endured excruciating pain after a series of performances.

Regarding the delay, the Cold Chisel’s 50th anniversary tour in October persists as planned. Soon, fans can look forward to watching them live again with the legendary group on stage.

In a touching Facebook post, Barnes shared the sudden requirement for an operation he was facing, expressing his regret to his followers.

Initially, I felt a slight discomfort in my hip as I departed from Dunedin. By nightfall, the discomfort had grown to an intense pain that was difficult to endure. However, the medical professionals are working diligently, and it’s anticipated that I should make a complete recovery within six weeks.

The post was accompanied by a photo of Jimmy in a hospital bed, giving a thumbs-up, with his wife Jane by his side.

Enthusiasts showered an abundance of encouragement, and the musician promised them that the delayed concerts, which encompassed performances in Wyong, Toowoomba, Thirroul, and Sydney, will be rearranged promptly.

Regardless of his health problems, Barnes remains hopeful, attributing his passion for music as a driving force behind his healing process.

He mentioned that he’s incorporating physical therapy into his daily routine, taking long walks and also working with weights, and to make things more interesting, he’s now singing as well during these sessions.

‘It’s just going to be a joy to get out and play music again. That’s what’s helped me recover so fast.’

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d like to emphasize the importance of understanding staph infections. These are conditions caused by certain strains of bacteria, and they can become quite serious if these bacteria manage to penetrate deeper within your body or gain access to your bloodstream.

Previously this year, Barnes shared a lighthearted photo from his vacation in Thailand, featuring him inside a boxing arena.

‘This is the first hotel gym I’ve found with a Thai boxing ring. I can see another hip replacement… Maybe not,’ he joked, displaying his trademark humour and resilience.

Despite the recent challenges, Barnes remains focused on getting back to his passion.

‘It’s a joy to play music again,’ he said, eager to return to the stage later this year.

This year’s Cold Chisel 50th anniversary tour, nicknamed “The Big Five-0,” is creating a buzz as it has already sold more than 150,000 tickets over 16 shows, positioning it among the most eagerly awaited tours of the season.
