Jim Ward, a well-known voice actor who worked on popular shows like Nickelodeon’s “Fairly OddParents” and “Danny Phantom,” as well as the “Ratchet & Clank” video game series, has passed away at the age of 66.
Jim Ward, a beloved radio personality, passed away on Wednesday, according to his former co-host, Stephanie Miller. Miller announced the news on Thursday, sharing that she and others would be honoring his memory and celebrating his talent.
On Wednesday, she shared heartbreaking news with her followers on X (formerly Twitter), revealing she’d received a sad message about Jim Ward’s wife. The voice actor worked with Miller on his radio show – sometimes as a co-host and often as a guest – for nearly two decades, from 2004 to 2021.
According to his wife, Janice Ward, actor Earl Ward passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He had been receiving care in Los Angeles at the time of his death.

While Ward frequently did impressions of celebrities on Miller’s show, he’s most remembered for providing the voices for many different characters. These included Doug Dimmadome, the wealthy owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome, and the persistent news reporter Chet Ubetcha from “The Fairly OddParents.” He also lent his voice to various shows like “My Life as a Teenage Robot,” “Danny Phantom,” “Ben 10,” “The Replacements,” and many other animated series. In 2009, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for his work on the reboot of “Biker Mice From Mars.”
Butch Hartman, who created the shows “Fairly OddParents” and “Danny Phantom,” shared his sadness about the passing of a frequent collaborator. In an Instagram post shortly after the news, Hartman said the voice acting community had lost a truly important figure.
Hartman fondly remembered his friend, saying, “Thank you for sharing your amazing gifts and personality with us. We’ll miss you, brother.”

David Ward was a prolific voice actor in video games, with roles spanning over nearly two decades. He lent his voice to a wide variety of titles, including the adventure game “Escape From Monkey Island” (2000), the action shooter “Wolfenstein” (2009), and the western “Red Dead Redemption II” (2018). He’s best known for portraying Captain Qwark in the “Ratchet & Clank” series from Insomniac Games, starting with the original game in 2002 and continuing through its 2016 re-release, plus all the sequels and short films in between.
Ward has lent his voice to many popular video games, including the first “Call of Duty,” “Resident Evil 4,” “Final Fantasy XIII,” “BioShock 2,” and “Fallout: New Vegas.” He’s also done voice work for games connected to TV shows and movies.
