Enjoying Celia Imrie on The Celebrity Traitors? If you’re looking for something family-friendly to watch with the kids this weekend, keep an eye out for The Borrowers, which is on TV this weekend.
The 1997 movie is based on Mary Norton’s book of the same title. It’s about tiny people, only a few inches tall, who live secretly within the walls and floors of human homes, making use of everyday objects as tools and resources.
Oh no! It turns out the family in this movie is in a really tough spot – the house they live in is about to be torn down! They desperately need to save their home, but the tricky part is they have to do it all without anyone finding out they even *exist*. It’s a really cool setup, and I’m totally hooked to see how they’ll pull it off!

The film features a talented cast including Jim Broadbent, who starred with Imrie in *Bridget Jones*, Mark Williams from *Father Brown*, Hugh Laurie known from *House*, comedian Ruby Wax, and a young Tom Felton. John Goodman, famous for *The Big Lebowski*, plays the bad guy.
Just a heads-up for anyone interested – I saw that this movie is airing tomorrow, Sunday, October 12th, at 12:15 PM on Film4. And good news, it sounds like it’ll be up on the Channel 4 streaming service after it airs, so you won’t have to catch it live if you miss it!

The film was a solid hit with critics, with a 76% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Renowned film critic Roger Ebert described *The Borrowers* as a delightful and imaginative family film. He praised its simplicity, noting that it quickly establishes the story, engages the audience with its effects and exciting moments, and wraps up neatly in just 83 minutes.

If you enjoyed *The Borrowers*, you might also like the Studio Ghibli film *Arrietty*, which is based on the same story. The English dub includes many well-known British actors, and it’s currently streaming on Netflix.
If you enjoy Celia Imrie’s work, you can also find her in a couple of films on Disney+ – both *The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel* movies. *The Thursday Murder Club* is available on Netflix, and you can watch *Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again* on Sky or NOW. Or, if you just want a quick glimpse, you can find the music video for ‘When I Kissed the Teacher’ on YouTube – that’s her only appearance in it.
You can watch *The Borrowers* on Film4 starting at 12:15 PM on October 12th, and it will probably be available on Channel 4’s streaming service soon after. *The Celebrity Traitors* is on BBC One Wednesdays and Thursdays, and you can also stream it on iPlayer.
