Jill Zarin, fired from ‘RHONY’ reunion show over Bad Bunny rant, defends herself: ‘I’m human’

Jill Zarin, who previously appeared on “The Real Housewives of New York,” has been removed from an upcoming reunion show after posting a video online with racist comments about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show.

E!’s reality show, “The Golden Life,” has removed cast member Jill Zarin, according to an announcement from the show’s producer, Blink49 Studios. The series, which was scheduled to start filming this spring in South Florida with Kelly Bensimon, Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer, and Sonja Morgan, will move forward without her. The studio stated the decision was due to Zarin’s “recent public comments” and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its standards and values. Variety first reported the news.

A spokesperson for Jill Zarin, who was on “The Real Housewives of New York City” from 2008 to 2011, didn’t respond right away when asked for comment. However, Zarin told InTouch that producers didn’t allow her to explain her side of the story.

“I took it down right away,” she said of her video. “People make mistakes. I’m human.”

After Bad Bunny’s performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday – a show in Spanish meant to honor Latin culture and history – Zarin shared her reaction on Instagram, saying it upset her.

Commentary: Why Bad Bunny’s wins feel personal

Bad Bunny’s busy week has been seen as a positive moment for the Latinx community, which is currently facing more attention and monitoring in the U.S.

She called the halftime show “the worst ever” in a now-deleted Instagram video that quickly spread online. In the video, she pointed out that the game was a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States and expressed her opinion that performing in Spanish wasn’t fitting for the occasion.

Zarin criticized Bad Bunny’s performance, saying his dancing involved repeatedly touching his groin. She admitted she doesn’t understand Spanish and wished she could have understood the lyrics. She also didn’t like the overall appearance of the show.

She felt the performance felt like a political statement, noting the complete absence of white people. Maybe she wasn’t watching when Lady Gaga performed a salsa version of “Die With a Smile,” or when influencer Alix Earle was celebrating on the field with Cardi B, Pedro Pascal, and Karol G.

Music

The Puerto Rican superstar headlined music’s biggest stage Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

She strongly believes the situation stemmed from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and criticized the NFL for prioritizing profits over principles, calling it “very sad.” This followed Bad Bunny’s recent criticism of ICE during his Album of the Year acceptance speech at the Grammy Awards.

Zarin ended her video by talking about Lady Gaga, suggesting she’d had a facelift and even joked she needed to use Google to figure out who it was. She added, “It was a little entertaining during halftime, honestly, because the performance itself was difficult to watch.”

Maybe Kid Rock’s pretaped Turning Point USA counterprogramming would have been a better fit.
