Jill Halfpenny’s “gripping” thriller based on “compulsive” story gets release date and first look

The new thriller Girl Taken, starring Jill Halfpenny, will premiere early next year. Previously known as Baby Doll, this ‘gripping’ series is adapted from a novel by Hollie Overton, and a first look has just been released.

Paramount+ has announced that all six episodes of the new show will be available to stream worldwide on January 8, 2026. You can find some early photos from the show, featuring stars Tom Halfpenny and Alfie Allen, below.

Written by David Turpin (known for The Ex-Wife), Suzanne Cowie (Good Ship Murder), and Nessah Muthy (Grantchester), the story follows the kidnapping of twin sisters, Lily and Abby Evans (played by Tallulah and Delphi Evans), by their teacher, Rick Hansen (played by Allen), in a quiet English town.

The story follows Lily, who escapes after being held captive for years. However, she soon finds that being free isn’t easy. The world she dreamed of returning to has changed while she was gone.

Abby, Lily, and their mom, Eve, are trying to piece their lives back together, but they’re haunted by the past. They know Rick is still at large, trying to manipulate the truth and avoid being held accountable for his actions.

“Girl Taken” is a powerfully emotional story that vividly portrays the challenges of overcoming trauma, the strength of sisterhood, and the difficult journey of rebuilding a life after hardship.

The cast also includes Vikash Bhai from Virdee, Niamh Walsh from The Sandman, Levi Brown from This Town, Victoria Ekanoye from The Turkish Detective, Holly Atkins from MobLand, and Kiran Krishnakumar from What it Feels Like For a Girl.

Suzi McIntosh, an executive producer on the show, hinted that the series features a suspenseful and unpredictable story with lots of shocking moments, keeping the production team captivated.

According to The New York Times (as reported by Amazon), the original book by Overton was a captivating and highly enjoyable read, keeping them hooked from beginning to end.

Girl Taken will premiere on Paramount+ on 8 January, 2026.
