Jessie J Admits Struggling With Acid Reflux During BAFTA Comeback Performance

Jessie J openly shared that her difficulties during the BAFTA television performance were due to her fighting off acid reflux at the time.

On Sunday evening at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, the 37-year-old vocalist made a triumphant comeback to the stage during the event.

Fans lauded Jessie for her exceptional singing skills during her first TV appearance in six years on The Award Goes To, a showcase of her remarkable vocal talents.

After the performance, she confessed on Instagram that she didn’t feel great, thinking others may have picked up on it too.

She wrote: “Before my BAFTAs performance this evening, I felt my acid reflux say, ‘Hello Jess.'” (Informal)

Those acquainted with the situation (or musicians) likely observed my struggle, yet I discarded the microphone stand and persevered regardless.

Jessie went on saying, ‘I adore existence. It’s not always flawless, but it’s authentic. I’m thankful to be here again, reflecting on the insanity and enchantment of everything. These streets offer no place to hide.’

Prior to her performance, Jessie said it was an ‘honour’ to be asked by BAFTA.

She mentioned: “It’s been a long time since I last sang on British television. This is quite a remarkable comeback; it’s an honor for me. However, the question now is, who will receive the award?

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can confidently say that the captivating duo of Mr. Bates and The Post Office truly stole the spotlight during this year’s award ceremony. Not only did they manage to secure two additional awards, but their impressive wins have further cemented the ITV show’s reputation for groundbreaking achievements in our industry.

In contrast, BBC emerged victorious with a total of 17 awards, following a successful year of broadcasting, at the ceremony that was hosted this year by actor Alan Cumming.

Additionally, both Baby Reindeer on Netflix and the acclaimed Gavin & Stacey Christmas special received significant honors.

It is widely anticipated that the conflict between Mr. Bates and The Post Office will likely be a significant focus on Sunday night. In fact, this limited drama has already received an early accolade in its category.

Receiving the trophy from Russell Tovey and Daniel Mays, producer Patrick Spencer acknowledged: ‘We were able to produce this film thanks to Polly Hill at ITV preventing our cancellation. The power of this story resonated because viewers united passionately, expressing outrage that compelled the government to react.’

Our show didn’t alter the law; instead, it was the citizens of this nation who did so. They demonstrated through their reaction to the case of Mr. Bates versus The Post Office that our country has no tolerance for deceivers and tyrants.

He stated, “Let this serve as a reminder to those entrusted with our safety, they should be careful not to misuse their authority.

Upon receiving this honor, it’s important for us to express that having the faith of the postal workers to share their narrative has been the most significant privilege we’ve ever experienced in life.

ITV was later honored with a Special Award, bestowed upon them by Baroness Floella Benjamin – for their efforts in producing Mr. Bates vs The Post Office.

Encouraging swift action from the Labour government led by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, ITV chief Kevin Lygo urged: “Let’s expedite the compensation payments for those ex-postal workers who have been affected, as they rightfully deserve it.

The evening kicked off with Jessica Gunning receiving the Best Actress award, following numerous praises for her chilling performance as the obsessive stalker Martha in Netflix’s hit drama series, Baby Reindeer directed by Richard Gatt.

After an unintentional use of profanity during his acceptance speech for Best Male Performance in a Comedy, Danny Dyer compelled the BBC to make prompt revisions.

In a typical fashion filled with colorful language, the 47-year-old actor expressed his enthusiasm during his first BAFTA win for portraying Lee in Mr. Bigstuff, a role that earned him this prestigious award.

Initially exclaiming “Heavens above, I’m emotional!”, the EastEnders actor subsequently paid a touching and amusing homage to Mr. Bigstuff scriptwriter and his acting partner Ryan Sampson, causing him to use colorful language again.

Danny mentioned: “However, I’d like to dedicate this to Ryan Sampson. One of the standout achievements from Rotherham. Admittedly, that’s not setting a high bar.

Indeed, one could argue that he is among the finest actors our nation has ever nurtured. He never repeats his performances; a trait I must admit, I cannot claim for myself.

He penned this section specifically for me, which means I’m feeling quite emotional once more. In other words, you’ve earned this win on my behalf, and I can’t express enough gratitude – thank you tremendously!

He concluded his speech by turning towards his two daughters, Dani aged 28 and Sunnie, 18 who were seated among the audience. Taking this moment, he swore one final oath, declaring: “My dear girls, Sunnie and Dani, I have accomplished it, I’ve truly done it!

Nevertheless, the BBC expressed disapproval when the celebrity breached the watershed, resulting in the host having to issue an apology for the explicit language used.

One hour after it occurred, the broadcaster edited out Danny’s swears and shortened his speech.

Later on, Alan unintentionally blurted out an expletive during his presentation for the esteemed BAFTA Fellowship to broadcaster Kirsty Wark.

The well-known Scottish actor inadvertently made a mistake by calling the award the ‘devilish fellowship.’ Realizing his slip-up, he awkwardly exclaimed another curse word, saying, ‘Oh, what a pickle I’m in!’

The Fellowship is the most prestigious award given by BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) to an individual, celebrating a remarkable and extraordinary career in the realms of film, video games, or television.

Kirsty received recognition for her steadfast commitment and exceptional impact on the field of news and current events television.

On that particular evening, Ruth Jones had an exceptional experience as she received the honor for Best Female Performance in a Comedy, marking her last portrayal of the legendary character Nessa in the December finale of Gavin & Stacey.

Receiving the award from Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, she expressed her surprise and gratitude by saying: “I honestly didn’t anticipate receiving this award, so I feel compelled to express my heartfelt thanks to my exceptional co-stars.

I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the BBC. It’s an honor and a privilege to be associated with such a remarkable institution, one that I take immense pride in having collaborated with on numerous occasions.

Addressing her writing companion, Ruth expressed gratitude by saying: “The individual I owe the most thanks to is my dear, thoughtful, and gifted friend James Corden. It’s been an incredible 17-year journey we’ve shared together, and without him, Vanessa Shanessa Jenson would not be here.

Indicating a possible upcoming TV collaboration with James, she expressed: “James, I really enjoy working with you on scripts. Here’s to many more shared projects in the future!

Despite facing a loss in the P&O Cruises Memorable Moment category, the show was overshadowed when blind comedian Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell’s Strictly Come Dancing waltz took the award over Smithy’s wedding ceremony.

Or more colloquially:

The show didn’t win in the P&O Cruises Memorable Moment category, but it was Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell’s Strictly Come Dancing waltz that won instead of Smithy’s wedding.

Winning one of the most significant honors during the ceremony, the acclaimed British actress Marisa Abela was bestowed with the prestigious Leading Actress award. This recognition came as a result of her captivating performance in the popular BBC series, Industry.

Accepting her award, the emotional actress expressed, “For approximately six years, I’ve been part of the Industry set. It’s hard to believe that Bad Wolf Productions and HBO allowed us to continue beyond season one – it’s just incredible!

As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share this incredible journey! You see, during my initial year at drama school, I managed to secure a role in a BBC series centered around a dynamic group of young finance graduates. This part, as Yasmin, transformed my life! It paved the way for me to portray the legendary Amy Winehouse in the film Back To Black. Incredible, isn’t it?

In the Leading Actor category, fan favorite David Tennant from the series Rivals was unable to secure the award, as it went instead to Lennie James for his outstanding performance in BBC’s Mr. Loverman.

A shocked Lennie admitted he hadn’t prepared a speech, as he ‘didn’t think this was coming my way’.

On that particular evening, Mr. Loverman received his second accolade of the night. Earlier in the event, Ariyon Bakare, a fellow cast member, was awarded the title of Supporting Actor and delivered a heartfelt speech that stirred many spectators.

The well-known BBC program “Would I Lie To You” was awarded the honor of being the best Entertainment Show, thanks to the humor and quick-witted dialogue provided by its hosts Lee Mack, Rob Brydon, and David Mitchell, which consistently leaves audiences in stitches.

David mentioned that we’ve been nominated eight times before, but this is our first victory. Last year, the category we were nominated for was eliminated, leading us to believe that perhaps next year we might be nominated for news or a brief drama about something related to Prince Andrew’s actions.

In addition, Robert Rinder and Rylan Clark were counted as victors, as their BBC series “Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour” bagged the Factual Entertainment prize.

In another competition, Joe Lycett surpassed Stacey Solomon, Romesh Ranganathan, Claudia Winkleman, Graham Norton, Ant McPartlin, and Declan Donnelly to win the Entertainment Performance award for his Channel 4 program, Late Night Lycett.

Or simply:
Joe Lycett won the Entertainment Performance award for his Channel 4 show Late Night Lycett against Stacey Solomon, Romesh Ranganathan, Claudia Winkleman, Graham Norton, Ant McPartlin, and Declan Donnelly in another competition.

33 years after its debut on television, Glastonbury Festival finally received its first TV BAFTA award. This was due to the comprehensive live coverage provided by the BBC from the event held at Somerset’s Worthy Farm.

EastEnders too participated, winning the accolade for Best Soap as they celebrate their significant 40th anniversary on the BBC network.

In a triumphant turn of events, the media titan secured an additional award due to BBC Breakfast’s success. This groundbreaking morning show earned its inaugural Television British Academy Award (BAFTA) for the Post Office Special they produced.

The dazzling event was graced not only by a stunning spectacle but also electrifying musical acts from artists like Jessie J and Tom Grennan. Notably, this was the first time Jessie J appeared on television for a live performance in six long years.

Esteemed violinist and social media star, Esther Abrami, played Apple Tree as a heartfelt tribute to the late TV personalities of this year.
