Jessie J openly shared details about her fight with breast cancer while appearing on Jools Holland’s New Year’s Eve Hootenanny on Wednesday night.

The singer, known for her song “Do It Like A Dude,” recently appeared on a yearly, pre-taped television program. During the show, the 37-year-old performed and discussed her difficult medical diagnosis with the show’s well-known 67-year-old host.

Before I sang ‘My Way,’ someone asked me about the past year. It’s been a tough one, as I shared back in June that I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I went through a mastectomy and reconstruction, and I’m now focused on healing and moving forward. It’s been a journey, but I’m grateful for the support I’ve received.

I haven’t been feeling well this year, but I’m trying to stay positive. I recently had breast reconstruction surgery – I got a breast lift – and while things aren’t perfect, like the nipples pointing in different directions, I’m focusing on the good. I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and this is part of my recovery.

I realize I’ve mentioned this repeatedly, but I believe it’s crucial we discuss both the positive and negative aspects of life. However, please remember this: don’t let your hardest times define who you are.

Earlier this year, Jessie surprised and saddened fans by publicly sharing her difficult medical diagnosis. She explained it in great detail to help others going through similar experiences.

Talking with Jools, she explained that many people have had a difficult year. She compared it to the Year of the Snake, a time of change and release, suggesting that the world needed to confront some uncomfortable truths.

I’m really struggling both personally and at work. A lot of difficult emotions have surfaced this week, and it’s the first break I’ve taken from work and social activities in months. I’m feeling very down and have been crying a lot, just trying to process everything by writing it all out. Honestly, it’s been a really tough time – the lowest I’ve felt in a while.
