Jessica Simpson Reveals Shocking Heartbreak That Nearly Ended Her Music Career

Back in the day, around two decades ago, I, a die-hard fan, was hit by a gut-wrenching heartache that still resonates deeply within me – the moment Jessica Simpson was let go by her record label back in ’08.

In an interview with Fancy Hagood for Trailblazers Radio, she shared that she didn’t comprehend the reason behind being dismissed following the release of her successful country album Do You Know, which eventually prompted her to step away from music for a while.

44-year-old Simpson expressed to Hargood through People that he had taken an extended hiatus from music. He admitted to feeling somewhat disgruntled towards it. Following his release with a top country album, he was let go, which left him perplexed and he simply didn’t comprehend the reason.

They claimed that I wouldn’t regain profits unless I handed over a portion of my brand, but my business was already thriving independently.

I can’t help but gush over this incredible artist who saw her debut album skyrocket to the top of Billboard’s Country Albums chart and land at an impressive No. 4 spot on Total Album Sales. But Can you believe it? It just goes to show how unpredictable the music industry can be sometimes.

In 1999, Simpson released her debut album, titled “Sweet Kisses”. Over the subsequent decade, she went on to produce a total of seven albums before taking a 15-year hiatus from music creation.

Jessica also said that she was warned not to pursue a career in music.

I was advised against it, as they believed it could harm my professional path, much like they predicted that getting into reality TV would jeopardize my career – but that didn’t turn out to be the case.

But Simpson just wanted to be relatable to her fans. 

I strongly feel that this aspect is crucial for me as a musician. I don’t aspire to merely imitate Jessica on stage, saying something like, “Wow, I really want to be exactly like her.

She expressed that she hopes people would remark, “Wow, I’m so much like Jessica,” which feels fitting and satisfying to her, is the way she put it.

As a die-hard fan, let me share that the singer behind “I Belong To Me” confided in Hagood about the importance of aligning her mental state for a successful comeback in the music scene.

‘I feel like there’s so many façades that we put up, so many different things,’ she  explained. 

On this occasion, I’m aware that I am a parent to three children, and I strive to set a positive example for them. However, they perceive me much like this delightful music – a familiar image to them.

Jessica clarified, “I’ve given the impression that I’ve been producing music all this time due to the writing sessions at home. The truth is, I’ve wanted to release music for quite some time.

For a long time, my dream has been to share my music with others. However, it just seemed that the timing was never quite right. I tend to make decisions based on my instincts.

Jessica made her long awaited return to music in March with her EP Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1. 

Simpson expressed that Nashville was the place where he found himself, saying, ‘Here is where I am born to be free… Here, I recorded a gospel album at the age of 14.’

She went on saying, ‘This is where I composed my initial melodies. Here, I penned down my entire album, and I’ve always felt secure.’

She opted to make a recording in Nashville since her oldest child, Maxwell (aged 13), desired to mark her birthday there.

Instead, she requested we sing “I Saw the Light” by Hank Williams and play his music that particular morning in Nashville, as it was a place she had always dreamed of visiting – somewhere she had yet to step foot.

She awoke, finding herself stirred by the tune, and it struck me profoundly. The illumination, it felt as though the light had appeared, she expressed.

Reflecting back on my early musical journey last month, I found myself standing shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow rising stars in the industry. It was a time of healthy competition and growth for all of us.

In her recent chat with Rolling Stone, the Texan-born artist (whose followers suspect is planning a vengeful TV series) revealed the two other popular female musicians in the industry whom she found challenging to keep pace with.

Reflecting on her journey to fame, she shared with the publication, “Given that there were artists like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera before me, who were selling an incredible number of albums, I never really stood a chance at winning.

At that point in time, she mentioned her feelings as, “I wasn’t keen on performing dance numbers and I didn’t prefer using a head microphone.

However, I took on the task since I’m employed by Sony, not wanting to disappoint them. Additionally, I often felt as though I was failing others, including myself, as I wasn’t singing lyrics I had penned myself.

Only after she started composing her own songs did she manage to secure her initial number-one hit single.
