Jessica Simpson, 45, reveals she is ‘ready’ to start dating again following her split from husband of 10 years Eric Johnson

Jessica Simpson has shared that she’s prepared to begin dating once more, after parting ways with her husband, Eric Johnson.

In January, the 45-year-old singer revealed that she had ended her 10-year marriage with a 45-year-old football manager, whom she had been with for over a decade.

Six months on, the star is expressing her eagerness to re-enter social circles, sharing her aspirations for a partner during an interview on the Today Show.

Co-host Jenna Bush-Hager asked: ‘Are you interested in dating? Can I set you up with anybody?’

‘I’d totally jump on that,’ Jessica said. ‘Yes I’m single – very into like, very… I’m ready!’  

‘What are you into so I can set my criteria?’ Jenna asked. 

‘My type of person is one of a kind. I don’t have a look, or anything,’ Jessica said. 

‘I just like for somebody to be individually, who they are. And exude confidence without the ego.

It seems elusive, but I have a strong sense that it exists somewhere. I appreciate support when offered, but I don’t require constant reassurance or companionship.

It’s quite appealing to me that I currently enjoy my freedom. If I could pass on this freedom to someone else, that would be really neat.

In a heartfelt announcement, Jessica shared that she and Eric have been coping with a difficult time in their relationship independently, which unfortunately led to them living apart. This means they are no longer together.

‘Putting our kids’ needs at the forefront, we’re dedicated to making decisions in their best interest. We truly value the kindness and backing that you’ve shown us, and at this time, we kindly ask for privacy while we navigate through these challenging times as a family.’

The pair share three children: daughter Maxwell, 12, son Ace, 11, and daughter Birdie, five. 

As a lifestyle advisor, I find it fascinating to delve into the union between the iconic pop star known for the hit “Take My Breath Away” and the esteemed retired NFL player. These two have been romantically linked for a significant four-year period prior to their 2014 wedding.

In 2023, the star was last seen wearing her wedding ring. More recently, in December, Simpson was noticed without her wedding ring, which has further stirred speculation that her long-term union with Johnson might be facing troubles.

It seems they last appeared together publicly around the time of Birdie’s kindergarten graduation on June 7, and Jessica’s social media posts don’t include Eric anymore after their Easter celebration on April 9.

Just a few days before making the announcement about their separation, Simpson posted a bright selfie on Instagram, accompanied by this message: ‘Life can be brief. Smile as long as you’ve got your teeth.’

It caused some surprise when Jessica didn’t mention Eric’s birthday on September 10, fueling whispers about potential issues in their marriage.

Furthermore, the former NFL star has also been noticed not wearing his wedding band during more recent appearances.

Jessica ignited conversation with a mysterious social media post on November 11 which seemed to cast a shadow over someone who is particularly close to her.

The singer started her caption with, ‘In interviews held within my Nashville music studio, I revealed my unique talent.’

This return is more than just a public display; it’s a self-forgiveness act for enduring things that were never mine to bear.

Her remark caused surprise among her followers, as they attempted to discern who had subjected her to experiences she felt were undeserved.

In 2023 Jessica gushed about her husband in an interview with People.

A genuine lover won’t cause self-doubt or confusion about reality. With the help of my exceptional partner, I can embrace love wholeheartedly, free from the apprehension of getting hurt.

She also reflected on feeling that she was ‘hard to love.’

She shared with People that showing affection towards others doesn’t pose a challenge for her, but she’s often felt that she herself is difficult to love, perhaps because she’s too intense or her schedule is overwhelming. However, he truly knows and comprehends her deeply, better than anyone else she has ever encountered in her life.

On his birthday in September 2023, she posted pictures from their family gathering and wrote a heartfelt message for him.

‘My heart is so taken with this Man, I could hardly call it my own…. We love youuuu,’ she wrote.

They welcomed their first two kids, Maxwell and Ace, in May 2012 and June 2013.

In the year 2014, their child, who was their son or daughter, acted as the ring bearer, while another child, presumably a sister or brother, served as the flower girl at their wedding. This special event took place in Montecito, California, and was graced by more than 250 guests.

Jessica later welcomed their daughter Birdie in 2019. 

Simpson was previously married to 98 Degrees boyband singer Nick Lachey from 2002 to 2006. 

The TV series “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” which aired from 2003 to 2005, provided viewers with a glimpse into the couple’s personal lives by showcasing their relationship on screen.

In the year 2006, Jessica found herself captivated by the charm of singer John Mayer, leading to an intense and stormy relationship.

Their bond was deeply powerful, and Mayer notoriously labeled Simpson as ‘sexual dynamite’ during an interview in 2010 with Playboy, where he also compared her to ‘crack cocaine’ for him.
