Jesse Eisenberg has publicly commented after Jeremy Strong was confirmed to be portraying Mark Zuckerberg in the upcoming film, The Social Reckoning. Directed by Aaron Sorkin (known for films like The Trial of the Chicago 7 and F1), the new movie will explore similar themes to the 2010 film The Social Network.
Jesse Eisenberg was highly praised for his portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg in the first film, earning nominations for several major awards, including the BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award. Because of this, many fans hoped he would return for a sequel, but Eisenberg has said he won’t be reprising the role.
Jesse Eisenberg discussed his upcoming book, The Social Reckoning, during an appearance on the Today show on Thursday, October 30th. The book is scheduled to be released in October 2026.

Eisenberg explained his decision to not participate in the project by saying that, regardless of how good the movie turns out, actors eventually feel like they’ve moved past a role and are ready for something new.
Honestly, I think it’s going to be an amazing film! I’ve heard from the actor that he’s close with Aaron Sorkin, the writer and director, and he assures us that the fact he’s not in the movie has absolutely nothing to do with how good it’s going to be. He really emphasized how brilliant it will be, despite him not being part of the cast.

I’m really excited about the new movie! It’s set 17 years after The Social Network and follows Frances Haugen, played by Mikey Madison, a Facebook engineer. She teams up with journalist Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White) to expose some seriously shady stuff happening behind the scenes at Facebook. It sounds like it’s going to be a real eye-opener!
Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Magnussen and Betty Gilpin are also poised to appear.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Strong explained his decision to take on the role of Zuckerberg in the upcoming film, The Social Reckoning.

He said it was one of the best scripts he’d ever seen. It felt incredibly relevant to what’s happening in the world today, tackling difficult and sensitive issues. He also described the main character as compelling and multifaceted, and said he was committed to portraying them with sensitivity, understanding, and fairness.
When asked if he’d discussed the role with Jesse Eisenberg, Strong said no, and clarified that his decision wasn’t influenced by any conversations with him.
The Social Reckoning is slated for release on 9 October 2026.
