Jennifer’s Body Director Hypes Up The ‘Fun And Crazy’ Sequel Development

Jennifer’s Body initially wasn’t successful in theaters, but it has since become a beloved film from the 2000s, with many fans watching it repeatedly, particularly around Halloween. Recently, the writer, Diablo Cody, has expressed interest in a sequel, ideally featuring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. Fortunately, the original director has just shared some positive news about its development.

Ahead of a screening of Jennifer’s Body with Megan Fox at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, director Karyn Kusama spoke with Deadline about the possibility of a sequel.

She’s currently working on a project I’m really looking forward to hearing about. I know a little bit about the basic idea, but I won’t spoil anything – it sounds as exciting and unique as the original. I’m confident Diablo will create something amazing.

We haven’t heard yet if Kusoa will direct the next film, or if Cody is officially working with 20th Century Studios. But once the script is finished, we expect to learn more about the project’s progress, including casting news. It seems Kusama is aware of Cody’s plans for the story, and her positive reaction – describing it as “fun and crazy” like the original – is encouraging. Fans are hoping Kusama will return as director!

When Jennifer’s Body was released in September 2009, 20th Century Fox made a mistake by advertising it to young men instead of the audience it was really made for. Luckily, over time, the film found its true fans and has become a cherished and significant movie, particularly within the queer female community.

Rumors of a sequel to Jennifer’s Body resurfaced in early 2024 when writer Diablo Cody began discussing the film while promoting her new movie, Lisa Frankenstein. Cody expressed her desire to make a sequel, stating she just needed the right collaborators who shared her enthusiasm. Later, Amanda Seyfried revealed that producer Mason Novick had approached her about the project, and she would be open to participating if the original studio, Fox, was involved. She even tried to get her former co-star, Adam Brody, on board.

As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear Kusama talking about another Jennifer’s Body movie! It sounds like things are finally moving forward, and I’m really eager to see what Cody has planned for the story – I can’t wait to find out!
