Jennifer Lopez embraces twins Max and Emme onstage after subtle swipe at Ben Affleck marriage

As a lifestyle expert, I always say the best way to start a new year is with the people you love most. And Jennifer Lopez definitely nailed it! She rang in 2024 surrounded by her amazing twins, Max and Emme – they’re her world, and it’s so heartwarming to see her prioritizing family.

As midnight approached on New Year’s Eve, the performer – who calls herself a ‘showgirl’ – gave her children a long, heartfelt hug while starting her new performance series at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Once Max stepped aside, Lopez continued to enjoy the moment with her daughter, waving to the excited crowd and giving Emme kisses on both cheeks before she happily ran off stage.

The singer, 56, looked stunning in a bright pink gown and feather boa. Her long, curly hair flowed down her back.

I’ll never forget when Jennifer Lopez opened up about what she went through after her divorce from Marc Anthony. It was so brave of her to share that she was a newly single mom to two kids, and how tough things were after their marriage ended. It really resonated with me because it felt so real and honest.

The performer, having jokingly referenced her marriage to Ben Affleck the previous night, spoke to the audience as if chatting with a friend.

Speaking softly, she said, “I hope you’ll remember one thing from tonight’s show: I’m going to give you a performance you won’t forget.”

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! It was ten years ago, the very first night of my Vegas show, and after I finished, these adorable little kids – they were only seven! – came backstage. The sweetest thing ever! One of them, Max, just looked up at me with these big eyes and asked, ‘Mommy, why don’t you ever wear pants on stage?’ I nearly melted! It was the most precious question, and I’ve thought about it a million times since. Seriously, it’s still one of my favorite memories!

I remember thinking, “This is a really strange life.” When asked to explain myself, I simply said, “I’m a dancer and I enjoy it.” It felt like a reasonable answer at the moment.

‘But the truth is, I do. I love to dance. If you take anything from my show – here it is,’ she went on.

She started to explain that after her third divorce – and she felt she’d really learned from those experiences – she was completely ready to quit on life.

My life felt chaotic. As a new single mom to three-year-old twins, I was really struggling. My mentor, Louise Hay, once asked me, “Jennifer, if you were learning a dance and made a mistake, what would you do?”

‘I said, “I keep going until I get the steps right.” And she said, “That’s it, Jennifer, always keep dancing,” and I wish the same for you,’ Lopez told the crowd.

Through all of life’s ups and downs, keep moving forward with joy and resilience. I love you very much!

Lopez then called out ‘Hit it!’ before launching into her next tune, the 2012 hit Dance Again.

During her performance on December 30th, Lopez playfully referenced her brief and difficult marriage, but didn’t say her ex-husband’s name.

Jennifer Lopez paused to express her gratitude to the fans who had supported her almost ten years ago during her first Las Vegas residency, ‘Jennifer Lopez: All I Have,’ which lasted from January 2016 to September 2018. She sounded a little out of breath as she spoke.

“It felt like a moment, didn’t it?” Lopez said to the crowd, recalling the opening night ten years prior, as captured in fan videos.

She jokingly mentioned she’d only been married twice at that point, a comment made before her 2022 marriage to Affleck, which unfortunately ended in divorce within two years.

After a burst of laughter from the audience, Lopez corrected herself.

You know, sometimes we say things and then immediately realize how it sounds. I was chatting with someone recently, and they playfully insisted something only happened once, then quickly added it felt like twice! It was all in good fun, of course – they immediately burst out laughing and admitted they were just teasing. It’s a little reminder that humor can be tricky, and we don’t always mean things literally!

She declared everything was okay with a dramatic flourish and a kick, accompanied by a strong beat from her drummer. ‘It’s all good,’ she added.

Lopez shared that she’s been learning and developing as a person after going through some difficult breakups, which she sees as a positive thing.

She exclaimed, ‘We’re in a happy time now!’ with a huge, beaming smile, and the audience responded with enthusiastic cheers and applause.

Lopez actually miscounted her marriages because Affleck was her fourth husband.

Jennifer Lopez first married Ojani Noa in 1997, but the marriage ended after a year. After a relationship with Sean Combs didn’t work out, she married dancer Cris Judd in 2001. However, that marriage also ended in divorce, in 2003.
