Jennifer Lopez said her divorce from Ben Affleck was the ‘best thing that ever happened‘ to her.
More than a year after their breakup, the 56-year-old actress shared that the split was a turning point for her, allowing her to develop and change in important ways.
In August 2024, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on what would have been their second wedding anniversary, stating they had differences that couldn’t be resolved.
After their divorce was finalized earlier this year, she said she ‘had so much fun.’
In an interview on CBS News Sunday Morning, she revealed to Lee Cowan that she struggled after the breakup.
She remembered working on her latest movie, *Kiss of the Spider Woman*, and that her former partner was an executive producer on the project.

The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January, which was also the month the couple officially divorced.
When asked about a difficult period in her personal life, she admitted she had a very hard time coping.
She admitted it was difficult working on the same project as him, especially so soon after their breakup.
She said working on the film helped her focus on something outside of her heartbreak.
‘It was hard not to think about stuff, but it was like the best and the worst of times, in a way.
Honestly, being on set was pure bliss! Every single second playing this character just filled me with happiness. But then… coming home was just… tough. It was like leaving a dream and waking up to something completely different. It really messed with my head, going from that high to… well, not that.
She added: ‘And it was just like, “How do I reconcile this?” But you get through it.’
The singer of ‘On the Floor’ later realized that getting divorced was actually a positive turning point in her life, allowing her to learn and develop as a person.

She said their separation ultimately helped her ‘become more self-aware.’
‘I’m a different person now than I was a year and a half ago,’ she told Cowan.
She shared that after the breakup, she had what she described as the best summer of her life.
‘I had so much fun. I’m able to enjoy things more and be great,’ she said.
She warmly remembered her former partner, specifically acknowledging his help with her movie version of the Broadway show *Kiss of the Spider Woman*.
She explained that the film simply wouldn’t exist without her ex-husband and his production company, Artist Equity.
She admitted she’ll always appreciate him for one thing: not constantly promoting the movie, but actually providing the funding to make it happen.
She remembered telling him she felt perfectly suited for the part and really wanted it. He simply said, ‘Okay,’ and then worked to make it a reality for her.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were married from July 2022 to August 2024, when Lopez filed for divorce after two years of marriage.
The couple first dated in the early 2000s, then got back together in 2021 and married a year later.
