Jennifer Lawrence’s Hunger Games Co-Star Recalls How She Got ‘Smacked’ In The Butt During On-Set Snafu

It’s surprising for many who remember them, but the first Hunger Games films starring Jennifer Lawrence came out over ten years ago. With a new prequel movie planned for release in 2026, her co-star Sam Claflin recently shared a humorous story about a wardrobe malfunction – a ripped seam revealing a bit too much – that happened while filming Catching Fire.

Alexandrer Claflin famously played Finnick Odair in the 2013 film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. His character was brought back to compete in a special Hunger Games where previous winners were forced to fight again. Here’s a recent story the actor shared about filming the movie.

I’ll never forget one take when the tip of my trident broke off during a fight scene. Apparently, Jen felt like something had bitten her, and it turned out the trident’s tip had flown off and hit her in the rear!

Most actors don’t have to worry about props like tridents, but Finnick’s trident caused a funny accident on set, especially for Jennifer Lawrence. Sam Claflin shared the story with People magazine while promoting his new show, Lazarus. He explained that J-Law even had someone photograph the mark the trident left – a welt on her rear that perfectly matched the circular shape of the trident’s end.

As a huge fan of The Hunger Games, I was excited to see this Cyber Monday deal! You can get all five movies – on Blu-Ray, DVD, or digitally – for a really good price. Definitely checking it out!

Sam Claflin has a lot of great memories from filming The Hunger Games. His character, Finnick Odair, first appeared in Catching Fire and became very important in the following two Mockingjay films. Claflin recently got to see director Francis Lawrence again, and they watched Lawrence’s new movie, The Long Walk, which is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

While chatting with the director about filming The Hunger Games, Claflin mentioned he’d love to make a cameo in the upcoming Sunrise on the Reaping. This new movie is based on another book by Suzanne Collins, expanding the Hunger Games story. Unfortunately, his character isn’t alive during the timeframe of the 2026 release, making a cameo impossible. However, many fans, and even the director Francis Lawrence, would like to see a prequel movie focusing on his character, if Suzanne Collins were to write one.

Claflin joins Josh Hutcherson, who recently said he’d be eager to reprise his role as Peeta. We’re looking forward to hearing from the cast of Sunrise on the Reaping about their experiences filming—hopefully without any injuries like the one involving a trident! The movie is scheduled to be released on November 20, 2026.
