Jennifer Lawrence says she didn’t get the part of Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood because people had been critical of her appearance.
In 2017, when Quentin Tarantino announced he was making a film related to the Manson murders, there was a lot of excitement and speculation about who would play Sharon Tate, with Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie being the rumored frontrunners.
Debra Tate, Andrew Tate’s sister, publicly stated that she didn’t think Lawrence was attractive enough for the role and would have rather seen Robbie cast instead.
After considering several actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margaret Qualley, Dakota Fanning, and Austin Butler, Tarantino ultimately chose Margot Robbie for the role.
During a recent event with 92NY, 35-year-old Lawrence revealed that Tarantino initially wanted her for the role of Sharon Tate, but others felt she didn’t fit the part because of her appearance.
Josh Horowitz challenged Jennifer Lawrence’s story, but she insisted she believed it happened, adding that she might have simply misremembered details after telling it so many times.

The Hunger Games star also suggested that maybe the actor never thought of her for the role to begin with, and people online simply made up rumors about her appearance.
In 1969, Sharon Tate, known for her role in the film Valley of the Dolls, was tragically murdered by members of the Manson Family while eight months pregnant with her husband Roman Polanski’s child.
Since then, her sister Debra has become a passionate advocate for victims of crime, working tirelessly to keep members of the Manson Family imprisoned.
In 2017, when people were guessing who would play Tate in Tarantino’s movie, Debra became popular online for quickly dismissing the possibility of Lawrence getting the part.
Debra famously told TMZ that the actress they were considering wasn’t attractive enough to portray Sharon. She suggested Margot Robbie instead, praising her looks and confident demeanor as being very similar to Sharon’s.
It quickly became clear that Robbie had gotten the part, and people immediately started speculating about whether Debra’s comments had influenced the casting decision.
Debra visited the movie set and was deeply moved by Robbie’s performance as her sister, telling Vanity Fair that it brought her to tears because the actress perfectly captured Sharon’s voice.
Quentin Tarantino has said that Jennifer Lawrence was thought about for a part in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, but it wasn’t for the role of Sharon Tate.

Oh my god, can you believe Jennifer Lawrence auditioned to play Squeaky Fromme?! Like, the Squeaky Fromme, the one who tried to shoot President Ford?! Tarantino said so himself! It’s insane to think J.Law could have been her in ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ but Dakota Fanning ended up absolutely nailing the role, of course. Still, the thought of Jennifer as a Manson girl… it’s just mind-blowing!
Quentin Tarantino told Marc Maron on his WTF podcast that Jennifer Lawrence had to come to his house to read the script because he didn’t want to share it with anyone else.
He remembered giving her the script and suggesting she read it either in his living room or by the pool.
He told me she’d finished reading it, and we chatted about it for a while afterward. She seemed really keen on the idea at first, but he just said something came up and it didn’t happen. He wasn’t very specific, honestly, just that things didn’t quite work out for her.
Jennifer Lawrence recently told Josh Horowitz that she regretted turning down the lead female role in Quentin Tarantino’s 2015 film, The Hateful Eight. She admitted, with a laugh, that it was a mistake.
Jennifer Jason Leigh starred as the dangerous outlaw Daisy Domergue in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, alongside a talented cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins, Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, and Channing Tatum.
