Jennifer Aniston blasts J.D. Vance over ‘childless cat ladies’ view on Kamala Harris

As a movie reviewer with a background in women’s rights and reproductive health advocacy, I was deeply disturbed by Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance’s derogatory remarks about childless individuals, particularly those holding political office like Vice President Kamala Harris.

Jennifer Aniston joined the political discourse in 2024 by criticizing Senator J.D. Vance, Trump’s former running mate and author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” for his comments regarding childless individuals.

On Wednesday, the Emmy-winning “Friends” actor expressed her shock upon rediscovering a 2021 video clip of the Republican vice president nominee. In this clip, he compared Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris, to childless, unhappy cat ladies who desire to spread misery to others. Vance added, “They aim to make the country as unhappy as they are.”

The actor expressed disbelief on her Instagram Story about a clip, writing: “I find it hard to believe that this could originate from a possible vice president of the United States.”

In a 2022 interview, “The Morning Show” actress spoke openly about her difficulties with infertility. Later in the conversation, she addressed Vance directly and hinted at the potential impact of the Republican Party’s stance on personhood laws on access to abortion, IVF treatments, and specific contraceptive methods.

“Regarding Mr. Vance’s daughter, I can only express my hope that she may be blessed with children of her own in the future. May she not have to consider IVF as an alternative. It pains me that this possibility is being taken away from her as well.”

A representative for Aniston had no further comment when reached by The Times.

A senator from Ohio, aged 39, was running for a seat in the U.S. Congress when he made those comments on Tucker Carlson’s show in 2021. However, the video has gained renewed attention this week following Trump’s surprise announcement of him as his vice presidential pick at the Republican National Convention last Thursday.

I’ve spent a significant portion of my life observing politics and analyzing trends within political parties. One observation that I find intriguing is the increasing influence of politicians without children in the Democratic Party, such as Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and AOC. It seems counterintuitive to me that we’ve placed so much power in the hands of individuals who don’t have a direct stake in the future of our country through raising children.

As a seasoned actress and long-time advocate for women’s rights, I’ve always kept an eye on political figures whose stances align with my beliefs. When it comes to reproductive rights, I’ve been following Kamala Harris closely for years, impressed by her unwavering commitment to this cause. So when the opportunity arose to show my support for her during these critical election times, I didn’t hesitate.

In a 2022 conversation, Aniston shared uncommon details about her efforts to become a parent and the public’s intense focus on her childless status during her high-profile weddings to Brad Pitt and Justin Theroux.

She shared with Allure that she had been attempting to conceive for a long time, describing the process as a difficult and lengthy journey. “I was constantly second-guessing myself and going through various treatments like IVF and trying natural methods such as Chinese teas,” she explained. “If only someone had advised me to preserve my eggs back then. It’s a regret I still carry with me. Unfortunately, now it’s too late for that.”

Aniston expressed disappointment over the media labeling her as overly focused on her own interests and career.

“She expressed her regret that a woman could be successful without having children. She added that her divorce was not due to this reason, as her ex-husband’s claims were false.”

At the same time, Ella Emhoff, Harris’ stepdaughter, and her mother, Kerstin Emhoff, spoke up in support of Harris.

Ella Emhoff shared a message from her mother on Instagram Story last Thursday. In this message, Kerstin Emhoff dismissed the accusations against Kamala Harris being “childless” as unfounded and hailed Harris as a “co-parent” to her two kids with Doug Emhoff.

“She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present,” the statement said.

Ella Emhoff expressed: “We may not have a large brood, but how can we be childless with adorable kids like Cole around? Let’s hear that again for those in the rear – I’m so fond of my three parents!”
