Jennie Garth’s Heartfelt Apology to Co-Star After Shocking Beverly Hills, 90210 Firing
Jennie Garth expressed regret and offered an apology to a former cast member from Beverly Hills, 90210, who was unexpectedly dismissed from the popular show.
On the latest episode of the 90210MG podcast, the actress, now 52, who recently spoke up after her late friend Shannen Doherty was not included in the Oscars’ memoriam segment, had an open conversation with host Dalton James, also 53.
During the seventh season, James temporarily took on the part of Mark Reese, who was Garth’s character Kelly Taylor’s love interest. After appearing in just 12 episodes, it was unexpectedly announced that Dalton would no longer be part of the series, despite having a multi-episode contract for the entire season.
The conversation turned towards a particular subject when both Garth and their fellow actor, Tori Spelling, acknowledged the obvious issue that was present.
Jennie suggested we should have an honest and straightforward discussion, since some topics discuss why your character didn’t progress further in the series.
In the teen drama, Dalton was chosen by Aaron Spelling, Tori’s late father, and he mentioned, ‘It was somewhat nerve-wracking, though. There was a certain level of apprehension when joining that show. It was renowned, firstly, and it felt like a close-knit group already.’

Garth shared with James that they, along with Spelling, had learned that his leaving was because of the ‘chemistry issue’ between her and the actor.
She mentioned that there were various perspectives about what happened, one being the chemical interaction between our characters, she conveyed.
I’m simply wondering if you could share your experience. Did you expect the series to continue for additional episodes but it concluded earlier than anticipated?
Subsequently, James reminisced, ‘Indeed, I was. I vividly remember the time when a producer summoned me for a discussion, informing me that I would no longer be part of their team. To tell you the truth, I was quite downhearted about it.’
However, remember that life can be tough for everyone, considering our shared youth. I harbor no negative emotions towards the situation; it was an excellent job, a wonderful chance…yet, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed…I believe you understand this, as we have always collaborated effectively.
As I stood before the camera during our final episodes, I found myself at a crossroads in my personal life. I was newly embracing the joyous role of fatherhood and simultaneously grappling with the challenges of depression. Yet, amidst these trials, Jennie and I managed to produce some exceptional work together on this series.
She responded, “I’m truly delighted by what you said, as I’ve observed the character unfold, recalled various instances, and now I’m getting more details about it from various sources.
Next, Garth revealed they discussed the dynamic between her character and another’s with the producers.

At a younger age, you tend not to consider things from multiple viewpoints with impartiality.
Jennie mentioned to the show’s producers, “I think the connection between these characters isn’t quite right.
She informed Dalton, “I hadn’t considered the effects on you or your future when I made that decision, and I’m relieved to learn that you don’t hold any resentment towards me. It would sadden me greatly if you did.
Overjoyed by the sudden exit of my favorite character from the show, I couldn’t help but reminisce about my conversation with a producer.
I wondered if I had made a mistake, to which he replied, “We chose a different path instead.
The What I Like About You actress told James, ‘I’m glad we were able to talk about that.
I’ve been wanting to discuss something with you, but I must admit I was a bit anxious too. I was curious to know how things have developed between us over the years, and whether discussing this might stir up old feelings.”
This version aims to maintain the original meaning while using simpler language and a more conversational tone.
Garth apologized to his ex-colleague, saying, “However, I’m sorry if my actions contributed to any problems you experienced.

In a similar manner, James expressed gratitude, offered an apology, and acknowledged his role in the situation by saying, “Wow, thank you! I’m also sorry for my actions.” He then complimented Garth by stating that addressing the past situation was “very commendable” of her.
As a lifestyle expert looking back, in an interview from 2010, one of the creators of the show I was discussing, Larry Mollin, touched upon Dalton’s departure as well.
As a lifestyle guide, let me share a personal reflection on an incident involving a colleague, James, who was accused of being anti-Semitic in a meeting. Larry, another individual, asserted that this claim was false, suggesting it was a tactic used to deter writers from challenging his decision to leave our circle.
Moreover, he mentioned that ‘[Jennie] rarely expressed complaints’ and ‘was an unwavering and devoted cast member since the beginning until the very end.’
Following his departure from Beverly Hills, 90210, Dalton took on roles in various other ventures, including the series Passions. His most recent project according to IMDb is a 2023 short film named Insurgent.
Garth later starred in the CW reboot, 90210, which aired on the network from 2008 though 2013.
At the 90s Con in Florida last year, Jennie admitted to regretting her decision to reprise her role as Kelly Taylor, according to People. She stated, “If I could turn back time, I wouldn’t have done it, but I hold no ill will towards them.
As a die-hard fan, let me tell you, I had a pal’s mate drop by one day, right into my lounge. He pulled up a chair, sat me down, and presented this extraordinary opportunity, calling it the chance of a lifetime!
She went on to remember, ‘He requested that I complete it, but I was unsure of how to refuse at the time. However, everyone was kind, so my best wishes to them.’

Tori Spelling soon responded to Jennie’s comments at the time while talking to E! News.
In simpler terms, fans have conveyed that they wanted the plot twists and character development to unfold differently since these characters hold such a deep emotional connection for them.
The star remarked, ‘I truly enjoyed our time together. Despite us occasionally being part of the ensemble, it was a fresh group of actors, especially Jennie who was more prevalent. To appreciate this cast, you should view it as an independent production, rather than comparing it to the original 90210.’
In the TV show BH90210, Garth, Spelling, along with their fellow original cast members like Brian Austin Green and Shannen Doherty, portrayed fictionalized versions of themselves for a single season.
