Jennie Garth reveals she suffered two consecutive miscarriages with husband Dave Abrams: 'I was feeling really ashamed'

As I delve into the heartrending tale of Jennie Garth and Dave Abrams, I can’t help but feel a profound empathy for their shared journey. Their story is a poignant reminder that love, life, and parenthood are complex tapestries woven with threads of joy, sorrow, and resilience.

Jennie Garth revealed that she experienced two pregnancy losses with her spouse, Dave Abrams, not long after their wedding ceremony.

The well-known actor from Beverly Hills, 90210, aged 52, and his spouse, also an actor at 43, shared their struggles during a particular episode of Jennie Garth’s iHeartPodcast, I Choose Me.

Garth, who has three daughters Luca (age 27), Lola (21), and Fiona (18) with his former partner Peter Facinelli, expressed feelings of shame upon failing to provide Abrams (presumably a male figure) with a baby boy.

Reflecting back then, I recall feeling incredibly low and embarrassed, as if I had let you down by not being able to carry a pregnancy with someone I deeply cared for,” she recalled.

Additionally, we were blessed with three lovely daughters together with Peter, and it turned out that you were an exceptional stepfather to them.

‘And so I remember I so, so, so wanted to give you a baby boy,’ she said.

Jennie admitted that she doesn’t remember a lot from that time, as she’s blocked it out.

At the beginning of our discussion, she expressed that this subject can be quite sensitive. Yet, she was grateful for your willingness to discuss it, as she believes it may benefit others.

‘What point in our relationship did we start talking about maybe wanting to have kids together?’

Abrams responded, “You might recall, our wedding was on July 11th. That very same month, we found ourselves expecting a child.

‘We got pregnant naturally,’ Garth added.

Absolutely. We returned from our mini honeymoon in Carmel, located in Monterey. Approximately two weeks following that trip, we learned that you were expecting a baby, as mentioned by Abrams.

He went on: ‘Well, we went to Nancy, your doctor, the gynecologist, and yeah, we were good to go. And then that lasted almost four months. And then, you know, we found out.’

‘What do you mean?’ Garth asked her husband.

He mentioned, “I prefer not to become emotional during the initial 15 minutes of this podcast. Regrettably, it turns out there was no heartbeat,” he shared.

Abrams shared he was ‘upset’ after finding out. Garth asked, ‘Did you feel upset with me?’

‘No,’ he replied. ‘I wasn’t upset, I was just down.’

The pair were then informed about a dilation and curettage procedure (DNC).

A dilation and curettage (D&C) is a medical process where healthcare providers remove tissue from within your womb. This procedure is used for diagnosing and treating various uterine conditions, like excessive bleeding, or cleaning out the lining of the uterus following a miscarriage or abortion, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.

‘I think I remember them saying we could just wait and let it work its way,’ Garth said.

We chose to go ahead with the treatment, as carrying a non-viable pregnancy was simply too challenging for me. Alternatively, nature might have taken its course on its own.

‘Yeah, it was totally heavy,’ her husband said.

The pair then opted to have the procedure done that day.

The couple then reconciled that maybe it wasn’t ‘in the cards’ for them to have a child.

Later on, Abrams mentioned, it occurred once more. Garth responded, “Of course,” although she admitted that she couldn’t recall this particular instance as well.

Abrams mentioned that the previous doctor visit was brief, and he recalled needing to change doctors. Then, it turned out he was going to be a father, which happened about a month and a half later.

In essence, the doctor said something like, “It won’t be beneficial in any case.” Consequently, we decided to undergo another DNC.

Later on, it appeared to have caused significant emotional stress, a burden we weren’t equipped to express back then. Consequently, we simply concluded the matter and other issues started cropping up.

Previously, Garth spoke about her past separation from Abrams in a chat with Self magazine, following unsuccessful IVF treatments.

In a heartfelt confession, I shared my struggle with a well-known media source. You see, my partner and I were on this incredible journey to create a family, but it seemed like each attempt ended in disappointment. It was an incredibly grueling experience for both of us personally, and it put immense strain on our relationship as well.

2017 found me reeling as my favorite pair called it quits; Abrams filed for divorce, leaving me heartbroken. Yet, fate (or perhaps love) intervened, and by the magic of 2019, they were back in each other’s arms once more. With a sigh of relief, I watched as Abrams withdrew his petition, giving us fans new hope for their enduring bond.

Apart from deciding to halt their attempts at having a child, they acknowledged that this choice allowed them to express their affection for one another in a new and unique manner, as Jennie put it.

Jennie and Dave first met during a blind date back in 2015. Three months after their initial meeting, they got engaged, and then they married towards the end of the same year.

Previously, she got married to the handsome actor from Twilight, Facinelli. They first crossed paths on the set of their 1995 film titled “An Unfinished Affair” and exchanged vows in January 2001.

The union didn’t last, and Facinelli filed for divorce in March 2012, which was finalized in June 2013.
