Jenna Ortega says she could have ‘used her words better’ over Wednesday criticism

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for quirky characters and captivating storylines, I’ve seen my fair share of on-screen transformations that have left me spellbound. Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series has undeniably been one such experience.

Jenna Ortega has responded to the criticism she received over comments she made about Wednesday.

In the Netflix show, the actor portrays Wednesday Addams, and during an interview on a podcast, she mentioned that she felt strongly about protecting the character and modified certain lines, which sparked a couple of heated discussions with the scriptwriters.

In a recent conversation with Vanity Fair, she acknowledged the backlash she received and admitted that she could have explained the circumstances better. However, she found the intensity of the criticism difficult to handle.

In a more concise manner, I believe I might have expressed myself more clearly if I had chosen my words more carefully while explaining everything. Often, I tend to go on and on without getting straight to the point.

Reflecting on the past encounter, I believe it was challenging due to my perceived lack of effective communication. If I could have articulated the situation more clearly, I’m convinced that the response would have been more favorable. The words I chose seemed amplified in impact, creating an atmosphere that felt oppressive and dystopian to me. It left me feeling like a caricature of myself, struggling to convey my authentic thoughts and feelings accurately.

It wasn’t easy for me to accept the truth that one can’t make everyone happy, especially since I tended to prioritize others’ satisfaction. However, I came to realize that some individuals might not take a liking to me, and that’s perfectly okay. In fact, I grew tired of myself last year.

As someone who has had their face plastered all over social media, I can definitely relate to feeling overwhelmed and uninterested when scrolling through my phone and seeing the same girl with a cheesy quote. It seems like everywhere I go, her image pops up, and it becomes exhausting after a while. I’m not saying I don’t appreciate her success or talent, but it can be hard to escape the constant reminders when they become so ubiquitous. It’s only natural for me, or anyone else in a similar situation, to feel a sense of fatigue and indifference towards seeing the same content over and over again.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that this month, I’ve learned about a new, as-yet-unnamed project from the genius mind of JJ Abrams. While specific details are still hush-hush, it’s been confirmed that I can’t wait to see Glen Powell, who stole the show in movies like Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters, will be a part of this exciting venture as well. Can’t wait for more updates!

Wednesday streams on Netflix. Season 2 is in production.
