Jenna Ortega lands next lead movie role in remake of classic ’90s thriller

On Wednesday, actress Jenna Ortega has secured the lead part in a remake of a renowned ’90s suspenseful film for her upcoming movie project.

According to the book “SWF Seeks Same” by John Lutz, the movie “Single White Female” initially featured Bridget Fonda portraying a character named Allison, who finds her life altered dramatically after ending her relationship with her unfaithful partner, Sam.

Allison seeks a female roommate to share companionship, but ends up encountering something unexpected when the overly attached applicant, portrayed by Jennifer Jason Leigh as Hedra, settles in and starts exhibiting peculiar behavior.

As reported by Variety, the 1992 thriller is poised for an update by Sony and 3000 Pictures. Actors Ortega and Taylor Russell are in discussions to take on leading roles. At this point, specifics about the cast and creative team have not been revealed.

Ortega has quite a bit of experience with chilling roles, appearing in several horror and thriller productions such as “You”, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, “Scream”, “Scream 6” and “X”.

The actress gained significant recognition for playing the main character of Wednesday Addams in the chilling Netflix show “Wednesday,” premiering in 2022. The series was recently announced to have a sequel, set to stream on the platform later in the current year.

In another location, Ortega’s horror-comedy titled “Death of a Unicorn” is set to hit theaters next month. In this film, Ortega and Paul Rudd portray a father-daughter duo who unintentionally strike and kill a unicorn during their journey to a weekend getaway.

In a new psychological thriller titled “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” Barry Keoghan from the series Saltburn is among the star-studded cast. This film is connected to The Weeknd’s upcoming album with the same title.

This summer, the movie is set to premiere, co-produced by Reza Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. It’s also associated with The Weeknd’s production company, Manic Phase.

Wednesday streams on Netflix, with season 2 on the way.
