As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the silver screen, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming 81st Venice International Film Festival! The star-studded lineup promises an unforgettable cinematic experience, and I am particularly thrilled to see Sigourney Weaver receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. Her illustrious career has graced us with timeless classics like Alien and Ghostbusters, and it’s a privilege to celebrate her contributions to filmmaking.
On the first day of the Venice Film Festival, held on Wednesday, Jenna Ortega perfectly embodied elegance as she appeared alongside stylish actresses Winona Ryder and Monica Bellucci during the Beetlejuice photocall.
The young actress, aged 21, was stunning in a tailor-made Paul Smith suit of a deep maroon color, featuring an alluring neckline and fashionable lapels.
Tim Burton’s film “Beetlejuice” featuring Monica, aged 59 (who happens to be his current partner), alongside Winona Ryder, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, and Jenna is set to kick off the festival.
In an elegant display, Winona, aged 52, donned a sleek black velvet gown accompanied by Jimmy Choo pumps, whereas Monica opted for a charming polka-dotted midi dress.
Catherine O’Hara was also at the event and wore a pretty black and white striped jumpsuit.
16 years ago, Tim and Monica initially crossed paths, but it’s reported that they began dating following their encounter at the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon during October 2022.
In June of the following year, Monica openly acknowledged her relationship when she told Elle France, “As for what I can share… I’m grateful for having met this man.”
‘This is a meeting that doesn’t come around often… I recognize the person, cherish him, and soon I’ll be face-to-face with the director. A new journey awaits me.’
She added: ‘I love Tim. And I have great respect for Tim Burton.’
Winona stars in the film as main lead Lydia and she was seen arriving in Venice on Tuesday.
“In ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, the Deetz family – spanning three generations – find themselves back at their Winter River residence following an unforeseen family mishap.”
After the lingering influence of Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life takes an unexpected turn when her headstrong adolescent child stumbles upon a secret gateway to the spirit world.
At the same time, during the grand spectacle that is this festival, I’m overjoyed to share that the legendary Sigourney Weaver is set to be honored with the revered Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement! What an incredible recognition for her unparalleled contribution to cinema.
Before collecting the award, Sigourney expressed her gratitude by saying, “It’s an incredible honor for me to be bestowed with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement by La Biennale di Venezia.”
‘It’s an honor I share with everyone involved in my filmmaking journey, to receive this award. I gratefully accept it as a tribute to each collaborator and team member who has contributed to our successful movie projects over the years.’
In 2024, the 81st edition of the prestigious Venice International Film Festival will take place at Lido di Venezia, and it’s being orchestrated by La Biennale di Venezia from August 28 to September 7.
Over the next few days, I’ll be keeping an eye out for some big names in Hollywood who are set to make their grand entrance in Venice. Just like Sigourney and the talented cast of Beetlejuice, they’re bound to add a dash of star power to the city!

They’re here for the grand premiere of “Wolfs,” the highly anticipated heist thriller directed by Jon Watts. Both George and Brad will be attendance at the September 1 screening.
Brad’s former spouse, Angelina Jolie, will likewise be present in Venice, as she too is set to publicize the movie titled Maria, where she portrays the renowned opera icon, Maria Callas.
Reports show that the schedules have been coordinated in a way to ensure that the estranged pair, still engaged in an eight-year long legal battle since their separation, won’t attend the film festival simultaneously.
On September 4, another significant film premiere takes place – Joker: Folie à Deux. This sequel will see stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga gracefully walk the red carpet of the Venice Film Festival.
Daniel Craig is scheduled to attend the festival as well, where he’ll be showcasing his film titled “Queer,” which has a screening date of September 3.
In the city, regulars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton are present for Pedro Almodóvar’s first film in English, The Room Next Door, while Nicole Kidman will be showcasing her erotic thriller, Babygirl, on August 30th.
Pupi Avati’s The American Backyard will close the festival on September 7.
