Jenna Ortega finally shares real reason behind Scream 7 exit

According to Jenna Ortega, scheduling conflicts were not the reason behind her choice to skip working on Scream 7; she clarified the situation herself.

On Wednesday, the actress who played Tara Carpenter in the legacy sequel of the slasher saga “Scream” (2022) and its successor, “Scream VI,” was portrayed by a star. However, she left the franchise in November 2023.

In the realm of exciting updates, I found myself echoing sentiments similar to many fans when I learned about the departure of Melissa Barrera, our beloved Tara’s sister Sam in the horror film series, much like a ripple in a pond, her exit followed close behind.

Originally, it was said that Ortega stepped away from the latest Scream film due to scheduling issues. However, in a recent conversation, she disclosed that she chose to depart after Barrera was let go and the directing pair of Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin had already parted ways with the movie.

“It had nothing to do with pay or scheduling,” Ortega told The Cut.

“The Melissa stuff was happening, and it was all kind of falling apart,” she added.

If “Scream VII” wasn’t under the direction of that team and the individuals I cherish, it didn’t feel like a suitable choice for my professional path during that period.

After his role in Scream (2022), Ortega has since been featured in the 2024 sequel to Beetlejuice, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the provocative thriller Miller’s Girl, and Death of a Unicorn from earlier this year, which also stars Paul Rudd and Richard E Grant.

Regarding the forthcoming “Scream”, it’s worth noting that Neve Campbell is set to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, having been absent from “Scream VI” due to salary disagreements.

Additionally joining the cast are fresh faces like Isabel May, Anna Camp, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, and Sam Rechner. However, we’re thrilled to announce that Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers once more.

Campbell and Cox aren’t the only OG stars making a comeback in the seventh chapter.

Actors David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley, who famously played their roles in the undeservedly criticized film “Scream 3”, are set to reprise their characters Dewey Riley, Stu Macher, and Roman Bridger respectively.

Yet, it remains uncertain if these characters will appear in flashbacks, hallucinations, or some other form altogether, considering they were previously depicted dying on screen.

Scream 7 will be released in cinemas on February 27, 2026.
