As a huge fan of “The Jetty,” I was absolutely blown away by Jenna Coleman’s recent revelation about an alternative ending to the gripping drama series. The way she spoke about the fluidity of the storyline and the deliberate decision to leave certain aspects open-ended really resonated with me.
The Jetty spoilers follow.
The Jetty‘s Jenna Coleman has revealed another show twist in the form of an alternative ending.
In this drama series, Coleman plays the role of Ember Manning, a tenacious detective. She’s on the case of an intriguing fire that broke out at a boat house. Uncovered secrets from a long-forgotten missing person investigation of Amy Knightly are surprisingly connected to this current mystery.
The four-part series weaves in past events, delivering surprising developments that culminate in Ember, now found guilty, accusing her former friend Arj of Amy’s murder.

Using different words, Coleman revealed during conversation that the film’s unexpected finale wasn’t decided upon during production, as there existed “several” possible endings.
From my perspective, it was an intriguing experience when I received the show with the first episode script and a treatment. My dialogue started there with Cat Jones, the showrunner, and Liz Kilgarriff, the executive producer. We delved into the ambiguous aspects of the story, posed questions without immediately providing answers, and sat in that uneasy limbo.
Initially, the story had a vastly dissimilar conclusion. A stark contrast from the current ending. This required significant alterations and led us to film two distinct prison cell scenes portraying her confession or lack thereof. Consequently, the final edit held the power to determine the outcome. There were multiple possibilities for how the story could unfold.

The actor explained further about the alternate finale, sharing that “she remained silent instead of speaking up. The detectives jumped to conclusions, and she didn’t dispute their assumptions rather than explicitly stating her own words.”
Based on my own experiences and observations, when we come across a situation where what’s written down conflicts with someone’s spoken words, it can be an uneasy feeling. It’s like standing in a gray area where truths seem to intertwine and blur the lines between fact and fiction. This discomfort arises from the realization that there might not be any easy answers, only complexities that require us to sift through layers of information to reach a conclusion. I have been in such situations myself, where the clarity of black and white has given way to the murky shades of gray, leaving me pondering over the intricacies of the human experience.
Ember managed to stay out of prison, leaving open the possibility for a second season of “The Jetty” according to Coleman. She expressed her fondness for Ember’s character and felt that the show had compelling stories to tell. Therefore, she hinted at the likelihood of continuing the series.
All episodes of The Jetty are available now on BBC iPlayer.
