Jelly Roll tears up recalling how being obese affected his sex life

Jelly Roll shared a vulnerable story about the challenges he and his wife, Alyssa DeFord, faced in their intimate life before he lost a significant amount of weight – 200 pounds over three years.

The 41-year-old singer-rapper (born Jason Bradley DeFord) once topped the scales at 550lbs.

Jelly Roll recently shared on The Joe Rogan Experience that his sex life with his wife was very difficult.

Man, let me tell you, I snagged the absolute dream woman! Seriously, she’s gorgeous, a total blonde bombshell, and… well, she’s just unbelievably beautiful. She’s the kind of woman who can instantly turn my whole day around, even when I’m feeling awful. You get what I’m saying? She just… makes everything better, you know?

The musician, who has been nominated for a Grammy seven times, shared that he experienced difficulty with arousal due to his size.

‘I was having to play Twister to have sex,’ Jelly Roll lamented.

Okay, let’s talk about getting grounded. Sometimes, life throws you off balance, and you just know it. You start questioning everything – ‘Am I even making progress?’ ‘Do I feel any better?’ – and honestly, things can feel really rough. It’s about recognizing that feeling, acknowledging it, and then starting to find your footing again. It’s a process, and it’s okay to admit when things are tough.

The couple, originally from Nashville and now including a 45-year-old podcast host who previously worked in the adult film industry, are continuing to try to have a baby through IVF.

Jelly Roll marked his birthday last Thursday with a run alongside his friend and fellow bowhunter, Cameron Hanes.

The heavily-tattooed man reflected on his troubled past, admitting he used to celebrate his birthday by drinking alcohol and using cocaine, and also by taking codeine and pills.

Cam and I are putting in the work and getting our miles done. It’s amazing to see how much can change in just a couple of years – that’s a testament to faith.

Jelly Roll stays in shape by running two to three miles most days of the week, and he also uses a combination of heat and cold therapy with 30 minutes in a sauna and six minutes in a cold plunge. To help with his diet, he’s working with a nutritionist, Chef Ian Larios, who prepares high-protein meals for him.

A year ago, the singer of ‘Holy Water’ said on the ‘Dumb Blonde’ podcast that he changed his body from 6’1″ naturally, without using popular weight loss drugs, because he was worried about getting heartburn as a side effect.

Jelly Roll says acid reflux is one of his biggest fears as a singer. He described waking up in a panic after burping, immediately needing to take medication because it can severely damage his vocal cords.

My goal is to be featured on the cover of Men’s Health by March 2026, and I’m aiming for a significant physical transformation. I’m sharing my journey publicly to stay accountable and motivated.

During Wednesday’s show, singer Amen became emotional and started crying when country artist Craig Morgan formally asked him to join the Grand Ole Opry.

‘It don’t get no bigger in country music, bubba,’ gushed Jelly Roll before embracing Rogan.

‘That’s as big as it gets. F***ing Grand Ole Opry, dawg.’

This man has a long criminal history, with his first arrest at age 13 for marijuana possession. He’s been to jail 40 times, including sentences for aggravated robbery at 16, and later for things like breaking the terms of his release, failing drug tests, and possessing crack cocaine with the intention of selling it.

Jelly Roll decided to change his life for the better after his daughter, Bailee Ann DeFord, was born. He is also a father to his nine-year-old son, Noah Buddy DeFord.

Lana Del Rey will be performing at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve.

Jelly Roll has received three Grammy nominations, including one for best contemporary country album. The 68th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+ on February 1st.
