Jelena Dokic has reflected on the bullying she has received over the years regarding her weight.
On Tuesday, the tennis champion posted a photo on Instagram showing her at the Australian Open in January and how she looks today. She explained that she felt like a champion – confident and good enough – at both times.
The 42-year-old started her post by saying she doesn’t want to be defined by her weight – whether she’s considered thin, heavy, or anywhere in between.
‘I am and want to be known as the girl and woman who stood up.’
She consistently defended herself and others, actively opposing body shaming, bullying, and online harassment related to her appearance and size.
This describes someone who has bravely advocated for themselves and others, gaining visibility through global media and public attention.

The broadcaster emphasized that her worth wasn’t determined by her size, even though others tried to make it so. She stated that she’s always been strong, capable, and happy, and, most importantly, a good and kind person, regardless of her weight.
She explained that she’s always confidently presented herself to the world, regardless of her size. Whether she was a size 22 or a size 4, she’s always been proud of who she is, and everything in between.
Jelena urged her followers to believe in themselves and not allow their body size to define their worth.
‘Never allow anyone to dictate your happiness, confidence, voice, worth or capabilities,’ she said.
Stand up for what you believe in and don’t be afraid to speak your mind, even if you’re nervous. Always remember that you are valuable and deserving of respect, regardless of your appearance or circumstances.
She concluded her uplifting message with this thought: ‘True beauty comes from within. Always be kind and compassionate, and never let anyone, including yourself, make you feel bad about who you are.’
Jelena recently revealed how many clothing sizes she’s dropped amid her extreme weight loss.
Last September, the retired tennis star posted impressive before-and-after pictures on Instagram and talked about how much she’s changed.

She shared photos of herself from her 20s, 30s, and 40s, noting how much she’d changed over the years – in age, body size, career, and life stage. She highlighted that each decade brought a completely different experience.
Jelena shared that her dress size had fluctuated over the years – she was a size 4 in her twenties, a size 22 in her thirties, and now wears a size 10 at age 42.
She observed that people will always find something to criticize, whether it’s about size, strength, or even success. There’s always something they’ll comment on.
Ultimately, your own happiness is what matters most. Prioritize your well-being and remember that you are valuable just as you are.
Throughout my life and various careers, I’ve always lived my life publicly, navigating different challenges with the added scrutiny of social media and the press. Despite any criticism, I’ve always remained confident and will continue to do so, because I’m secure in who I am.
Don’t let anyone’s negativity or unkind words bring you down. Believe in yourself and be your own biggest supporter.
