Jeff Goldblum’s ’80s horror classic is getting a reboot

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various worlds and universes, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic excitement about the news of a new project set in the universe of The Fly. The original film was a groundbreaking masterpiece that combined horror, science fiction, and a touch of dark humor in a way that few movies have managed to do since.

Jeff Goldblum’s 1986 horror The Fly is getting a reboot.

In the movie directed by David Cronenberg, a reimagining of a 1958 film with the same title, Goldblum plays the role of an unusual scientist. After an experiment fails, he undergoes a transformation into a half-man, half-fly creature of colossal size.

As reported by Deadline, filmmaker Nikyatu Jusu is planning to pen and direct a fresh project for 20th Century Studios – a body horror movie.

However, the new project is reportedly set in the universe of The Fly, rather than being a remake.

At the time of its premiere, The Fly garnered positive reviews from critics, and it currently holds a remarkable rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to the review, David Cronenberg skillfully blends his signature elements of grisly horror and character depth in “The Fly”, resulting in an unexpectedly moving and tragic story.

Blink Twice‘s Geena Davis and The Last of Us actor John Getz also star.

In 2018, Goldblum expressed interest in reprising his role for a sequel, even though his character met a tragic end.

He expressed that it was unlikely for his character to be part of the situation, given that he had suffered a tragic transformation by both the fly and the machine, as he put it back then.

However, it’s possible I could appear as a descendant of the original Seth Brundle, or there might have been another Seth Brundle, his brother, who somehow manifests.

As a gamer, let me share my experience: Working with director David Cronenberg was nothing short of exhilarating! If given the chance, I’d jump at it again. Trust me when I say, I’d love to collaborate with him once more!

The Fly did produce a 1989 sequel without Cronenberg, but it was largely panned by critics.
