Jazz club Blue Note opens new Los Angeles venue and festival partnership
As a seasoned music enthusiast and a native Angelino who has witnessed the ebb and flow of L.A.’s vibrant jazz scene for decades, I can confidently say that 2025 is shaping up to be an exhilarating year for us jazz aficionados! The Blue Note Jazz Club, a New York institution renowned for its intimate settings and stellar lineups, is set to grace our city with its presence.
In 2025, the renowned Blue Note Jazz Club from New York will make a big impact on Los Angeles‘ music culture.
As a devoted jazz enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the esteemed Greenwich Village jazz club, renowned for its New York roots, is expanding its horizon! In March, it’s set to open a stunning new venue in the heart of Hollywood. This magnificent space will boast two performance rooms seating 200 and 100 guests respectively, along with a comprehensive restaurant. This isn’t just an expansion; it’s a global jazz movement! The club already has branches worldwide, from Napa to Hawaii, Tokyo, Italy, China, and even Brazil. I can hardly wait to experience the magic of this iconic club in a whole new setting!
Once more, the location will collaborate with multi-Grammy winning musician and composer Robert Glasper to organize events in Los Angeles, continuing the success of his extended “Robtober” artist residency.
I’m thrilled to collaborate with Blue Note again for an event that promises to be a significant cultural fusion within the Los Angeles community,” Glasper stated. “Los Angeles has always felt like a second home to me, and I’m eager to share L.A.’s unique culture with Blue Note.
Music
As a devoted film buff immersed in the vibrant world of Los Angeles jazz, I felt the sting when Highland Park’s iconic ETA closed its doors. While the city’s music scene remains rich and diverse, it’s undeniable that our cherished clubs are grappling with uncertainty, their rhythm slightly off-beat.
At this juncture, local jazz clubs find themselves in a bit of a crossroads. Regrettably, some cherished establishments have had to close down, while others are undergoing changes in an attempt to survive.
Furthermore, the location is slated to serve as the primary partner for the rebranded Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival, formerly known as the Playboy Jazz Festival that started in 1979. Now called the Blue Note Jazz Festival, under the guidance of the LA Philharmonic, the updated festival will launch on June 14 at the Hollywood Bowl. The complete roster is set to be unveiled on February 18, with tickets going on sale in May.
2022 marked the commencement of the Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa’s Napa edition, featuring a blend of hip-hop and R&B. Notable headliners such as Nas, Mary J. Blige, Chance the Rapper, and Maxwell graced the stage during this event.
LA Phil’s president and chief executive Kim Noltemy expressed excitement about collaborating with Blue Note on the upcoming Blue Note Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. In a statement, she emphasized that this partnership reflects a mutual commitment to honoring jazz music and its outstanding artists, as well as preserving the tradition of top-quality performances at the venue. The two organizations are eager to offer an exceptional experience for jazz enthusiasts in Los Angeles.
